The trailer for the movie Straight Out of Compton popped up on my facebook feed like 20 times this morning. Who knew a bunch of white guys that were in Jr High in 1988 would love NWA so much. WHO KNEW?!
Seriously, if you were a cool white kid from the burbs this was an album you had to own. I'm interested to see how they deal with that in the movie. Yes, NWA was all about the young Black male experience growing up in the hood but so was a LOT of hip hop around that time. Sadly I feel like NWA's lasting impression on society is a bunch of white kids that think they're hard because they bought a tape and an Oakland Raiders hat at the mall. Also I wonder how they'll deal with the whole Eazy-E dying of Aids.
Still, Straight out of Compton is a dope song.
