Wonder Woman: Breaking Records and Faces

In case you hadn't heard Wonder Woman was a big hit this weekend. It passed $100 million domestically and had the biggest opening weekend for a movie directed by a woman. I know I've passed along tons of rumors about how there were behind the scenes issues and that the studio wasn't happy with the movie but believe me, I'm glad it was a hit. Yeah, when it comes to comics I'm a Marvel zombie but as far as movies and TV shows go I just want to see good stuff. I don't care what multi-billion dollar media conglomerate is behind it.

It's not just "Hey I like super heroes, so I want to see good superhero movies" though. A big blockbuster staring a woman, directed by a woman based on a comic book? That's good stuff, important stuff. Not important like universal healthcare for all, but its a blow to sexism and with when the president of the united states is grabbing em by the pussy a win, is a win, is a win.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the movie this weekend. My son got invited to a birthday party (the day before the party!) so my Saturday plans were blown up. I'm going to try and check it out next weekend. I might not be able to be part of the record breaking opening weekend but maybe I'll be a part of the "not as huge of a drop off as summer blockbusters usually have" second weekend.

New Wonder Woman Trailer

Hey kids, this last weekend a new Wonder Woman trailer hit the webs and lets just forget about all the rumors that this movie is terrible and WB/DC is seriously stressing out about it.

Ok, to be fair that rumor started on one blog and has snowballed to the point that most people can only point to other blogs that are reporting that other blogs have reported on the rumor. Real through the looking glass kind of stuff. All three of the big trailers look pretty good and not in a Suicide Squad, all we've done is set random footage to a cool song, kind of way. I'm going to continue to be cautiously optimistic about this one. Unless the early review are that it's absolute garbage I'll try and check it out opening weekend.

You know, just like I did with Logan which I still haven't seen yet! I might just call in sick on Friday and go to the movies alone like a chump.

New Wonder Woman Trailer

Hey kids, check out this new Wonder Woman trailer. I don't know it has the same impact as the first teaser they released but it still looks pretty cool. I think that first teaser benefited from how godawful Batman v Superman was, by comparison it looked like Citizen Kane. Also there's still pesky rumors that this movie was sort of a disaster to film and no one at DC/WB is happy with the end result. Of course given how happy they seemed to be with BvS maybe that's a good thing.

I'm going to keep being cautiously optimistic, maybe dial down my expectations to really really low. Worked for Suicide Squad!

Old Ass Links

This Old Ass Commodore 64 Is Still Being Used to Run an Auto Shop in Poland. That's pretty impressive. I mean sure it's Poland so you'd expect them to be using something old but I wouldn't have guessed anything older than a 486. I'll bet someone contacts them and buys it for a boatload of cash. I don't know what a running Commodore 64 goes for on Ebay but I'm guessing it's a good 40 or 50 bucks. In Poland that would probably buy you a second Auto Shop.

The 15 Most Spot-On Superhero Movie Portrayals Of All Time. This list is not ideal. The problem is with the term "spot on", do they mean closest to the comic book? If that's the case you can't put Black Widow or Scarlet Witch on here at all. Black Widow talked with a Russian accent in the comics for like 20 years. Scarlet Witch in the comics is pretty much a gypsy and really looks nothing like Elizabeth Olsen. Also Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool should be much much higher. Probably higher than Chris Evans as Cap.

My top 3 in no particular order are Reynolds as Deadpool, Picard as Professor X and Wesley Snipes as Blade.

Take that to the click bank website I've never heard of before.

The First Half Of Fight Club Was In A Movie You Never Saw. Come on now Cracked, if you think I haven't seen Cloak and Dagger staring Dabney Coleman you are sorely mistaken. Of course I was like 8 and I don't remember it being a prequel to Fight Club at all. This article has definitely been swimming in the Trump end of the pool but it's pretty interesting. If nothing else it highlights just how messed up of a movie Cloak and Dagger really was.

Gal Gadot Tries On Lingere in This Clip From Keeping Up With The Jonses. Is Gal Gadot nine feet tall or is Isla Fisher like four foot nine. Seriously this is like When Rocky fought Thunderlips and he barely came up to his nipples. Is she standing on a box? Maybe that store has a problem with warped flooring?

Everything's fine at the WB

Yikes, an anonymous letter to Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara was posted over on Pajiba yesterday implies that the upcoming Wonder Woman movie is a mess. I mean it does a bunch of other stuff too but I'm only worried about Wonder Woman. For anyone that's seen the last 2 or three DC movies none of it is very surprising. It's a former employee of WB blaming the big boss for all the failures of the studio. I'm not sure why the internet is treating it like it's such a big deal?

I blame him too. I think everyone does. I don't know, go ahead and give it a read yourself. I don't see a whole lot of substance to the letter just a lot of vitriol.

Sure Batman v Superman wasn't as big of a hit as expected and it bombed with the critics. Is anyone surprised they're sticking with Zack Snyder? I mean the movie still made a bunch of money and there are fanboys out there that will defend it to their deaths. At this point I doubt Warner Bros (and to a lesser extant DC comics) have a back up plan if these movies start bombing.

Back to my original point and reason for writing this. I'm bummed to hear that there are rumblings that Wonder Woman might be a mess. The trailer was SOOOOOO good and I think a lot (and I mean a lot) of fans are excited about a female hero soloing finally soloing a film on the big screen. You think people were upset at Superman's portrayal in Man of Steel? You do not want to get Wonder Woman fans angry.

Warner Bros Drinks Marvel's Milkshake

Marvel was having a pretty good San Diego Comic-Con, with showy trailers for all their netflix shows plus some casting news for Agents of Shield, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Captain Marvel. DC and Warner Bros took their "pretty good" gave it a wedgie and stuffed it in a locker with trailers for Justice League, Wonder Woman, The Lego Batman Movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, King Arthur: Legends of the Sword, and if that wasn't enough a new Suicide Squad Trailer.

As much as I would like to pad my post count for the week here's all of them. Nice to Warner Bros just post these to Youtube after they showed them at SDCC. Pretty much the best way to battle piracy is to just give it away. They've generated a ton of buzz and I kinda doubt the 6,000 or so at Hall H that got to see these first feel cheated in anyway.

Nothing about the reviews or previews or word of mouth made me want to see Superman v Batman so I still haven't seen it. A friend is letting me borrow the DVD later this week so I'll probably get to it next weekend. HOWEVER, Justice League and Wonder Woman both look awesome. I'm all on board the DC hype train. Hopefully Zack Snyder doesn't throw me off it again with more talk about Batman getting raped in prison.

Hey, Look at Wonder Woman over here!

So word on the street is that Batman v Superman kinda sucks. It probably won't be a "flop", even the worst Batman movies make money (looking at you Batman & Robin). The budget for this thing with all the advertising is an insane $300 million but with international audiences in the mix it'll still probably make $500 million and that's like the worst case scenario. The biggest issue here is that it's going to fade from the national conscious very quickly, not good for a movie that's supposed to be the foundation of DC's version of a shared comic universe.

With that in mind DC and Warner Bros have already released a still from the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. Forget all about that bad press, Malibu Stacy has a new hat!

It looks fine. I still don't understand why all DC movies have to be so monochromatic. I guess we're trading the gloom and darkness of Batman v Superman for the bronzy beaches of Xena the Warrior Princess. I guess it could be ok, I don't really know and at this point don't really care. Way to derail the hype train guys.

Evil Links

Horror Classic 'The Evil Dead' Coming to TV With Star Bruce Campbell. I'm not like an obsessive superfan of the Evil Dead series but I'm what you might call a pretty big fan so I'm really excited about this announcement. I have so many questions. Will it be a serialized format? Are we talking multiple seasons or is this a mini series? Is Ash the star or just a minor role? Is Bruce Campbell even playing Ash?

I fall into the camp of actually liking the remake/reboot from 2013. I thought the mythos of the Necronomicon and the time old horror trope of a cabin out in the woods is strong enough to carry a well written movie on it's own. Sure, I'd like to see a Evil Dead 4 just as much as the next nerd but I'm guessing that due to the combo of Campbell's age and Rami's success it's just not in the cards anymore. Assuming it's well done, a TV series is just fine by me.

Megan Rapinoe says playing a World Cup on turf is 'bullshit'. I think I commented on it briefly on twitter but there was a sort of underground social media movement to get the announcers for the World Cup to quit saying that Landon Donovan was the top goal scorer for the US in the World Cup and start adding a bit of a verbal astrisk by saying he was the top men's goal scorer for the US in the world cup. The point being that the women's game matters and should be recognized. The default position of Sports should be both female and male, not Sports and Women's Sports.

With that in mind FIFA is going to hold the Women's World Cup in a bunch of stadiums that use field turf. If it wasn't clear before, it is now just how much they value the women's game.

Man Who Helped Kill Women's Pro Soccer Dies While Playing Soccer. Speaking of Women's soccer, there's something in the above article on Megan Rapinoe that really bothered me. She said that FIFA just maked billions on the World Cup in Brasil, implying that surely they could spend some of that money on the Women's World Cup and find a few stadiums that have real grass. That's pretty much where I draw the line in the field turf. If women's sports are going to succeed they need to do it on their own. Click through all the links deadspin has on this article about the former owner of the Florida magicJack. Women's soccer has always had the athletes, they have the fans they just can't figure out a way to put together a sustainable league.

Ignored Comic-Con This Weekend? Here Are The 10 Most Important Things You Missed. I'll be honest, I wasn't that jazzed for Comic-Con before the weekend started and nothing I saw on the web really changed my default jazz status. Still a couple cool trailers premiered and Wonder Woman got a new outfit that sort of looks like Xena's. I guess that's something, right?

The Biggest Winners And Losers Of Comic-Con 2014! Speaking of Comic-Con. Sounds like actual comic books took an even further back seat to Hollywood this year. Like if Comic-Con was a station wagon they moved from that weird rear facing seat every wagon in the late '70s had to a trailer towed behind the wagon.

License those Links

Marvel To Publish Star Wars Comics In 2015. This is big news. Bigger News if you were a comic book reader in the '80s. Back then Marvel made boat loads of money by printing books based on Toy and Movie Licences. Star Wars, GI Joe & Transformers were all best sellers. Somewhere in the '90s they let those licences go to Dark Horse, Image and a couple other smaller publishers. Currently the Star Wars books Image publishes are pretty darn good so it will be interesting to see if Marvel really rolls out the red carpet and gives the titles they publish top notch creative teams.

Shia LaBeouf: "Should God Sue Me if I Paint a River?". Wow... just wow. Shia LaBeouf is a special kind of crazy. The kind that comes from being in hollywood for your whole life. He's like Corey Feldman but instead of drugs he's immersed himself in "art".

If you're not familiar with the story, The Beef made a short film that was essentially a adaption of a comic book by Daniel Clowes (Ghost World). Of course he did it without telling Clowes and without telling anyone else it was an adaption of a previous work. When he was first caught he apologized. Kind of. Every apology he tweeted was taken from a google search for apologies. Now he's spewing crazy on what is art and what is intellectual property. Seriously, the kid is cray cray.

Sexy Wonder Woman and Triforce Aprons. WooWoo.. now I know what I'm getting my wife for Christmas 2014.

I Was An NFL Player Until I Was Fired By Two Cowards And A Bigot. If you didn't hear about this yesterday you're probably living under a rock. Or somewhere that doesn't get sports talk radio. Chris Kluwe the greatest punter in Vikings history was let go at the beginning of the season. He makes a pretty good case that it wasn't due to his performance but because he's outspoken on the issue of gay rights. It's an interesting read, especially in a post Ducky Dynasty newscycle.

I had two takeaways on the article. First off if Adrian Peterson had said the same things Kluwe did there's no way he would have been let go. Kluwe's words and actions aren't that controversial. I just believe they're too controversial in relation to his ability and that's the reason he hasn't found another job in the league. Why would a team want to deal with even a small distraction just to sign the 19th best punter in the league?

Second is that if Kluwe can be taken at his word, the special teams coach for the Vikings is a horrible person. If you ever want to know why most gay athletes don't come out until their careers are over you have to look no further than the guy the Vikings are seriously considering as a head coach.

NERD ALERT! We have a Wonder Woman

WB just tightened even the loosest of pants today by announcing that Gal Gadot would be playing Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel, tentatively titled "The one with Ben Affleck playing Batman".

It's worth noting that the only thing you probably know Gal Gadot from is the last 3 Fast & Furious movies. I don't know why but I find this hilarious. Don't get me wrong, I've already pre-ordered my tickets to 7ast & 7urious but come on... those movies are filled with terrible acting, including Miss generic European accent here.

The other rumor worth noting is that the Man of Steel sequel very well might have other members of the JLA in it. Flash and Green Arrow are the names that keeps popping up the most. I'm all for it. The Justice League isn't that complicated. Flash runs fast, Green Arrow shoots arrows, Aquaman talks to fish, there's no reason you need to drag this out into 6 different origin movies like Marvel did. Everyone is pretty familiar with the characters that make up the Justice League. If the movie is a hit then start working on your spin offs. Trust me, if The Flash just shows up on screen no one is going to get confused over who he is. Everyone's seen Sheldon's shirt on the Big Bang Theory.

Fans make the best only Wonder Woman movies

I've mentioned it a thousand times here. DC comics and Warner Brothers failure to move forward on a Wonder Woman movie (or decent TV show) is redonkulous. It's like they're afraid of money. We're living in a world where Marvel/Disney is making a 100+ million dollar movie that stars a talking racoon and DC is afraid that Wonder Woman's amazon by way of greek mythology backstory is too confusing for viewers.

Anyway, this fan film looks pretty cool but there's bit too much slow mo for me. Who directed this John Woo?

Wonder Woman 1, Nazi's 0

I have mentioned this before but there are 3 Wonder Woman porn parody movies and 0 actual Wonder Woman movies. I'm starting to think that Warner Brothers is allergic to money.

Amazonian Links

For Better or Worse, Wonder Woman is coming back to TV. I once said that there was no way a you could make a Wonder Woman TV show, with her traditional costume, that didn't look cheezy and stupid. Problem solved, the new Wonder Woman show will be called Amazon and it'll be on the CW so I'm sure she'll be fighting crime in a leather jacket and no one will ever call her Wonder Woman. Yay?

The Best Dungeons & Dragons Character Alignments. Funny list that makes me wish I played more D&D as a kid. I think I played all of 3 times, most of the times I was playing one of the knock of RPG games based on a existing franchise like TMNT or Robotech.

Japan's Ninjas are Headede for Extinction. Yeah right, that's what the Ninjas want you to believe. Then when you think they're all extinct, boom! Shuriken right between the eyes.

Randy Couture Responds to Steven Seagal's fight challenge. Conventional wisdom once was that Steven Seagal actually knew karate (or akido or whatever it is) and Jean Claude Van Damme was just a really buff gymnast. But lately I've been hearing from more and more guys in MMA that Seagal is a total joke and Van Damme actually spars on a regular basis. I don't know what to believe anymore!

Save the Links

RIP G4, 2002-2012. G4 has finally gone the way of the Virtua Boy and Atari Jaguar, yesterday they announced that they are going to rename and rebrand the channel. They claim they're going to "take G4 in a direction reminiscent of GQ". I think that's TV speak for Boondock Saints and Entourage marathons as far as the eye can see.

Story time! Way way back in 2002 my parents moved from Seattle to Phoenix leaving behind the boat that they had lived in. Since it was free rent I moved back on board, the only hitch was that it was moored 30 miles away from Seattle in a super cheap dive of a marina. My reaction to feeling so isolated from my friends and hometown was to watch A LOT of TV. I was saving tons of money on rent, so I went with the $250 a month cable deal that at the time included a fledgling little network called G4.

G4 quickly became my favorite channel. There were video game reviews, video game trailers, shows where people played video games, shows were people told you how to play video games. It was awesome. I was super into it to, I was on the forums and would e-mail some of the shows.

Sometime in 2003 I moved back to Seattle and my super limited basic cable plan, so I said goodbye to G4 until I got married to my wife and her super deluxe cable plan in 2006. By then the network had changed so much it was unrecognizable. Sure Attack of the Show was still geared towards nerds but it wasn't G4TV. And Xplay was a shell of what it once was. Oh yeah, and the Cops reruns.. so many Cops reruns.

So rest in peace G4, you were a nerdy thing I once liked. You may be gone but the memories remain.

The CW is working on a Wonder Woman Pilot. Supposedly the series is called "Amazon" and will look at her early years of crime fighting. So really it's just Smallville Vol 2. I cant wait for season 9 when she finally puts on the real Wonder Woman costume!

22 Examples of Cartoon Logic. My favorite, while not shown, is Goofy and Pluto. Why does a Dog need a Dog?

Cristiano Ronaldo is to "sad" to score goals. Oh, F this guy. Long story short, Ronaldo scored two goals last weekend but he didn't celebrate because he's sad. I play soccer every week and you know how long it's been since I've scored a goal? Its been about 3 years. On behalf of defenders everywhere Ronaldo can get bent.

Superheroes encourage you to check for lumps

Why is She-Hulk giving herself a breast exam, for science! And education, I guess. Why is the wall behind her blowing up while she's giving herself a breast exam? I have no idea, maybe it's the Mole Man?

Held this year from December 5-10, Mozambique Fashion Week is an annual fashion and cultural event hosted by African nation's capital city of Maputo. In addition to MFW's mission to promote the creativity and beauty of the Mozambican people, the event includes a social responsibility component that specifically targets the subject of breast cancer, which is of course an enduring threat that affects millions and millions of women around the world. For this year's campaign, MFW partnered with Associação da Luta Contra o Cancer to create a series of breast cancer screening advertisements that feature the comic book superheroines Wonder Woman, She-Hulk, Storm and Catwoman.

This sounds pretty reasonable to me. When you think about it She-Hulk got her powers from Gamma Radiation. If I were her I'd get an MRI every morning with my Latte.

Woo Woo Woo Links

The guest and worst of RAW 9/19. Wolverine (or Hugh Jackman) showed up on RAW last night to help put over internet sensation woo woo woo Zack Ryder. It was the only time ever my wife hasn't rolled her eyes when I turned the channel to wrestling.

10 biggest missed opportunities in Sci-Fi and fantasy. Number one for me here is the Joss Wheadon Wonder Woman movie and it's not just because I want to see Eliza Dushku dressed as Wonder Woman. Wait.. yes, yes it is.

The internet's most dangerous celeb is Heidi Klum. Someone somewhere has determined that 1 in 10 internet searches for Heidi Klum lead to viruses or malware. I have never been more scared doing a search for an image to go with an article than I've been right here.

Why we're building a post-apocalyptic electric car. I've often thought of what Car I'd jack in robot-zombie apocalypse. I've always thought the Honda Ridgeline with a canopy would be a good bet. I figure whatever you go with it has to be a 4x4, for navigating downed power polls and piles of corpses. A 4 door truck with a canopy seems ideal, you can keep all your stuff dry but you don't have to sleep with the fumes from the spare gas cans. Plus the rear seat will double as a bed in a pinch. I picked the Ridgeline because a Honda just seems more reliable than anything else, plus it's got ridiculously high sides which has to be good keeping you safe from the zombie hordes. In closing, I think about zombies way too much.

Everyone wants to do Wonder Woman

Christine Hendricks was doing press for the "movie" I don't Know How She Does It and she told Billy Bush (really?) and Kit Hoover (really? really?) that she would love to play Wonder Woman on the big screen. A casting rumor originally thrown out there by Nicolas Winding Refn (what the hell's going on with names today?), the Director of Drive, who said he wanted to make a Wonder Woman film staring Hendricks.

Two things here. Warner Brothers has no interest in actually making a Wonder Woman movie. Wonder Woman is the most popular and recognizable female superhero of all time and she has more porn parodies to her name than feature films. It's nice and all that a director with a goofy name wants to make a Wonder Woman movie but let's be realistic.

Second, there is no bustier on earth that could hold Christina Hendricks giant boobs. If they filmed it in 3D they'd get sued for giving the entire audience whiplash... and boners.

Links Tornado

Dinklage and Goggins. I'll take it. The Emmy nominations came out today and they're not as terrible as they were last year. Justified got a ton of love, still they completely ignored Ron Swanson. I mean I like Modern Family as much as the next guy but jezz. There are other comedies on TV.

Hotties of the US Women's Soccer team. Every 4 years I become a big fan of women's soccer. I'd like to say attractive ladies running around in shorts aren't a big reason for that but I'd rather not turn this into a blog of lies.

Naked woman thrashes $170,000 drift car. Want to watch a naked chick ruin a clutch? Honestly I just needed a 4th link...

Wonder Woman loses her pants. I'm only %99 sure the people at DC have no idea what they're doing but I'm %100 sure this reboot is going to fail spectacularly.
