Trevor Noah Just Had His Moment

If you've been on any kind of social media over the last 24 hours you've probably seen mention of this interview of Tomi Lahren by Trevor Noah on last Wednesday's Daily Show. I caught it "live" while playing Overwatch late into the wee hours. It was probably the first time since he took over for Jon Stewart that I was like "ahhhh, that's why they chose him". Noah really knocked it out of the park with this one. He was very calm and unaggressive, giving Tomi just enough rope to hang herself while still pressing the point that many of her opinions were equal parts terrible, hyperbolic and hypocritical.

Of course none of this matters because none of her fans are going to be watching this, if anything the fact that it created so much social media attention probably helps her brand. Politics everyone!

Here's the interesting thing I haven't really seen anyone comment on yet. Comedy Central runs the The Daily Show twice a night, first at 11pm and then again at like 2 in the morning or something. With Dish network I get the east coast feed of Comedy Central so the first airing of the Daily Show is at like 8pm my time, I almost always catch the replay at 10:30pm. Apparently when this episode first aired the interview with Tomi was cut to about 5 minutes, she went on twitter and claimed it was heavily edited to make her look bad. Then Comedy Central in their infinite wisdom aired the entire 15 min interview on the rerun. I have no idea if that was planned or not but it was brilliant. The longer the interview goes the more her arguments fall apart and the more awkward the whole thing is.

This might not be equal to Jon Steward going on Crossfire but I'm hoping this is a block in the foundation of the new Daily Show. I felt their election coverage was really sub par. I'm not one of those people that thinks we "need" the Daily Show but it wouldn't hurt to have something to laugh at every night while Trump "drains the swamp" but appoints the 5th Goldman Sachs executive to Treasury Secretary.

Boy have I missed the Colbert Report

I didn't realize just how much I missed Stephen Colbert (of the Colbert Report as opposed to Stephen Colbert of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert) until he returned to TV last night to cover the Republican National Convention. I know the Daily Show with John Stewart was sort of the gold standard of late night political comedy but I'm sorry the Colbert Report was a better show. It was nice to see him back, even if it was only for a 10 minute segment.

I was kind of amazed at how badly the Comedy Central shows dropped the ball yesterday. I understand how their taping schedule works and I know it would have been a challenge to do any sort of new show at the RNC but come on. The Daily Show played a clip show that was really really poorly edited. The Nightly Show didn't even put that much effort into it, they just ran a rerun from last week. Both shows need to do something different and creative to gain back all the credibility they've lost over the last year. Just doing what Stewart and Colbert used to do but much worse isn't going to do anything for them.

Anyway, how about that Melania Trump? That was crazy huh?

Ted Cruz is going to be great

Oh baby am I excited for Ted Cruz. I mean I'm not going to vote for him or anything, do I look that crazy. I'm excited by all the comedic opportunities that surround this man. It's like Herman Cain, Joe Biden and Sara Palin had some super ideological baby that does nothing but poop its pants and straight up murder crazy talking points. Plus he's Canadian. In a post birther world it doesn't really get any better than that.

There's so much great stuff in this video. The kids wearing Rand Paul shirts, the part where he tries to trick the kids into signing up for his call list, the crazy eyes. I'm not at all looking forward to the inevitable Clinton Administration 2.0 but I am SUPER looking forward to the Republican primaries. Come on Bobby Jindal get in there, you know you want to.

In response to the whole n-word controversy surrounding presidential candidate Rick Perry, Daily Show correspondent Wyatt Cenac reports on Geographical Bigotry from around the US.

I agree with his summary, clearly there aren't enough black people making maps. That's not racist if I say it right? It kind of sounded racist.. ack, what to do?

I voted for Obama!

This is for all my fiends with conservative parents. John Stewart just eviscerates a couple of new republican talking points. First, the idea that raising taxes on the rich is really class warfare and would have an insignificant impact on the federal budget. Second, that too many people in the US pay nothing at all in taxes and need to start paying their share.

Nerdy signs at the Rally to Restore Sanity

I don't know how much sanity was restored at the Daily Show rally this last weekend, but I can tell you the protesters brought the funny when it came the their signs. I'd have a lot more respect for the teaparty nut jobs if they'd just have some better signs. I mean anyone can put a Hitler moustache on Obama, but moonite/terrorism jokes are precious like diamonds. or babies. or diamond babies

Most conservatives have no sense of humor, so they probably won't even laugh when the Daily Show goes after the Dems. Of course to be fair to them it's hard to laugh when GAY FORIEGN NAZI SOCIALISTS ARE RUINING THIS COUNTRY!

BTW, Does anyone remember that awful fake news show Fox News came up with a couple years ago that was supposed to be their answer to The Daily Show? No? Exactly.

I'm not sure what's more surprising here. The fact that people are so worked up over health care or the fact that we still have town hall meetings. I'm pretty sure the only "Town Hall" my city has is the Showare Center. Home of the Lingere Football League's Seattle Mist. Season tickets are on sale now.
