Logan Trailer #2

This new trailer for Logan came out last week while I was home sick with my sick kids. That's a fantastic time I tell you, being sick and trying to take care of someone sick, ugh never again. I'll just die next time, it'll be way less painful.

Hopefully that won't be before Logan actually comes out. Holy cow does this movie look good. I know there's some speculation that this might be Hugh Jackman's last ride as Wolverine but I hope that isn't the case. He's just now at the point where he's got the old grizzled warrior thing down, it would be criminal for them to recast the part now. We need at least 5 or 6 more Wolverine movies.

Logan: Official Trailer

Lots of good movie trailers being released this week. Yesterday it was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and today it's Wolverine 3 Logan. There's not a ton to the trailer, although I'm sure there's a half dozen youtubers searching for easter eggs right now. It's mostly tonal in nature, showing you Wolverine and Professor X as old men. There's a guy with a robot hand, a little girl and Professor X says all the mutants are "gone".

Really they could have showed Hugh Jackman washing his car and as long as they set it to Hurt by Johnny Cash it would feel super dramatic and important. Man that's a great song. If I was ever going to be an MMA fighter, that's the song I'd come to the ring to.

Gallon of Links

I Drank A Gallon Of Water A Day For 30 Days. I really need to do this. I know I suffer from dehydration pretty much constantly. The only days I don't are days I play soccer when I'm consciously drinking extra water. I get migraines way too often and I'm always tired. I'm not sure about the carrying around a gallon jug with me all day but I'm sure there's someway I can make it work. I have next week off, maybe I'll start then.

Wolverine 3 Will be R-Rated, and Star a 'Bold, Different' Wolverine. It sure sounds like Wolverine 3 will be as close to an adaption of Old Man Logan Fox can do. I say close because the two major bad guys in OML are a family of Hulks and a Spider-Man villain. I'm 99.9% sure they're going to have to rework that.

Old Man Logan is one of those stories that's good but not really great. It's essentially Unforgiven but with Wolverine, which really is a can't miss idea. If they get even a half way competent writer and director on the project this is going to make a billion dollars.

Mario makes leap to Minecraft. I know the new Nintendo is rumored to be less than a year away but man I still really want a WiiU. There's just so many cool games on it. Maybe the price will drop this Christmas. I have zero problem playing old games on it, probably the only game that would be horribly outdated would be Splatoon, because I'm guessing there's not a lot of people on-line playing it anymore. Everything else like Mario Maker, and Captain Toad Treasure Tracker would still be cool as hell.

The new Pirates of the Caribbean at Shanghai Disneyland is amazing. I am ready to go to Disneyland. Unfortunately my daughter isn't quite ready yet. Maybe in 2 or 3 more years we'll make a big trip of it. I want to do the full meal deal where we stay at one of the Disney hotels but I'm not sure if I'm ready for a second and third mortgage on the house. The smart thing to do would be to start saving money now, but I'll probably just buy a bunch of scratch tickets. Someone's got to win, right?

X-Men: Days of Future Past, the present trailer

Here's the first of what I'm sure will be many trailers for X-Men: Days of Future Past. From what I've been told this is the same trailer that was shown at SDCC this summer just with a little extra post-production rubbed on it. No sentinels yet or anything.

For the uniformed Days of Future Past is one of the more iconic storylines from the 1980s X-Men comic books. It revolved around Kitty Pryde traveling to the future where she finds an apocalyptic wasteland where most of the X-Men are dead and the rest of the worlds mutants are hunted by giant purple robots. It's really the perfect storyline to lift if you're going to try and shoehorn all the stars of the original X-Men trilogy and X-Men: First Class.

Oh there will be major differences that will get all the nerds huffing and puffing but that's just par for the course with Fox. As long as this isn't another X-Men: The Last Stand I think we'll all be ok.

Wolverine will fight you on a train

This minute and a half fight scene from The Wolverine is kinda ridiculous. Wait, did I say kinda? I meant extremely ridiculous. Did they find this long ass train in the same country as that endless runway in 6 Fast 6 Furious? Also I'm pretty sure if you open a window or a door on a train you don't get instantly sucked out of it.

This movie is going to suck isn't it?

The Wolverine: No talky more slashy

Here's one minute of new footage of The Wolverine courtesy of CinemaCon (which I refuse to believe is a real thing). I like it, I like it a lot. Of course I said that exact same thing about X-Men Origins: Wolverine and that movie was TERRIBLE. Hopefully the creative team behind this doesn't try and out think themselves and they keep it nice and simple. The best Wolverine stories are the ones that concentrate on mans inner struggle between animal and humanity, not spy capers, memory loss and Deadpool without a mouth.

The Wolverine: The Trailer

Here the trailer for The Wolverine. That's all you're getting. I'm on vacation for the next two days. If you need me I'll be sitting in my underwear watching TV eating a big block of cheese.

Wolverine and some guy I've never heard of

True Nerd For Links

You're not a nerd, geeks aren't sexy and you don't "fucking love" science. Mmmmmm, now that's some good hate. Depending on who you ask we're either living in a golden age for nerds or the dark ages. I think it all started with Rachel wearing the Slave Leia outfit for Ross on Friends. All of the sudden something at one time considered nerdy and shameful was out there and presented in a way that was easily acceptable to middle america. Before you know it Michael Bay is making a billion dollars with Transformers and Dwayne Wade is wearing ridiculous looking glasses at press conferences.

Personally I think the whole fake nerd vs real nerd is stupid. If some celeb wants to wear a Dungeons and Dragons t-shirt great, it's no skin off my nose. My nerd cred isn't going anywhere. Everything comes and goes, soon enough all us nerds will be back in our parents basements reading our comics sad and alone while all the cool kids are dancing to boy bands in hammer pants.

A Female Cosplayer’s Message to Rude Guys: “Nope. Stop Talking.” Well this is a giant can of worms here isn't it? My wife believes that if you cosplay as Slave Leia or Emma Frost you're pretty much asking for nerds to slobber all over you. I think that no matter how you dress up at a convention you have the right to be treated with respect. I think we both have pretty good points, it's just the eternal debate over what should happen vs what will happen. Also... boobs.

This Summer’s Drought Could Be the New Normal. I Hope You Didn’t Like Trees! Forget global warming, I'm positive the sun is spiraling closer to the sun every year. Seeing Waterworld all those times is finally about to pay of.

Oh Hai Viper from The Wolverine Movie. I got nothing here, I just needed a 4th thing for my links. Wait, I mean "why doesn't she have green hair! As a nerd I'm outraged!"

The Wolverine might not suck. really.

So this morning people on the internet are reporting that Fox is looking at Duncan Jones to direct the new Wolverine movie. This is great news. If you haven't been following this story Darren Aronofsky was originally attached to the project but backed out after he realized he's a real director and we're talking about a Wolverine sequel.

Once Aronofsky left I didn't think this movie had a snowball's chance in hell of being any good, but if they really are looking at Duncan Jones I'm drinking the cool aid. Jones directed what's probably my second favorite Sci-Fi movie of the last 10 years, Moon (Primer being my favorite). If The Wolverine is going to break the odds and actually be any good, hiring Jones is a nice place to start. Having him bring Sam Rockwell along would be even better.

Wolverine vs The Hand

I'm not really sure what this is. I'm sure it's wolverine fighting some ninjas in a real artsy kinda way but past that I don't have a clue. I think it's french, it looks french to me.

The Way of the Wolverine

Io9.com is reporting that Chris McQuarrie, the writer of the Usual Suspects, X-Men and The Way of the Gun, has just been hired to write the Wolverine sequel.

I gotta say this is pretty exciting news. Especially following the depressing news of a Battlestar Galactica reboot. The first X-Men movie was fantastic, The Usual Suspects was an instant classic and The Way of the Gun is totally underrated. The Way of the Gun also has the best opening sequence in movie history. Which is sadly not embeddable... thanks for nothing Youtube! Here's hoping McQuarrie will be able to pull off something fantastic with Wolverine 2. If he does, the summer of 2012 might be a great one for movie goers, no matter what the Mayans say.

The Most Embarassing Superheroes Ever

No, this isn't a list of Superheroes that are just embarassing themselves. While there's plenty of those out there, these are the Superheroes that embarass you, the comic book reader.

Wolverine
But Wolverine is awesome and loved by everyone, what could possibly be embarrassing about him? How about magical swords, WWII covert operations, psychic scar tissue, Patch, the awful James Howlett storyline, yakuza girl friends and yeah bone claws. Ever try explaining the bone claws thing to someone who used to read comics in the 80s and is absolutely sure Wolerines claws aren't one of his mutant powers? Trust me it's a shamefull conversation.

Giant Size Man-Thing
This isn't really a shot at poor Man-Thing (who is awesome btw), this could just as easily been Booster Gold, Squirrel Girl, The Thing, Dazzler, Blue Beetle, Matter Eater Lad or anyone of say a hundred heroes with laughable names. What's the phrase, you never get a second chance to make a first impression? Try making that first impression with a copy of Man-Thing in your hands.

Eternity
Eternity came into existence when the universe was formed (along with Death, Oblivion, and Infinity) and spontaneously assumed the collective consciousness of all living things in the Universe. He is every living thing and every living thing is him; thus he controls everything in all plains of existence with the exception of the Living Tribunal, who maintains the cosmic balance of power. Eternity is the physical incarnation of time, whereas his sister Infinity represents space. Also, if Galactus ever dies or does not exist, the opposite of Eternity, Abrax..... oh God shoot me now.

Psylocke
"Hey who's the hot Asian chick in purple with the glowy hand sword? What do you mean she's Captain Britain's sister. Siege Perilous? no, I've never heard of it, please tell me more" ..talk about a conversation sure to impress and inform your friends.

Batman/Captain America
There's nothing inherently embarrassing about Captain America or Batman, both are beloved and pretty well known by your average non-comic reader. The real problem with Cap and Bats is that both of them died a while ago. Even if you can maintain your dignity explaining how Cap was killed by his brainwashed girlfriend and then replaced by his sidekick that has been dead for 40 years, I dare you to explain someone that doesn't read comics the events of Final Crisis. Go ahead, I've got all day.

Bomb Queen/Witchblade/Aphrodite IX/Fathom/Tarot
Really this one goes to any superheroine that fights crime in a thong. As well written as the comic might be (yeah right), I wouldn't leave any issues laying around. Especially when you have a lady friend over to your pad/parents basement.

One More Day
So this one is cheating, One More day is a storyline not an actual character. I don't care it's my list. You didn't have to see the way my wife looked at me when I told her that Spider-Man was about to sell his marriage in a deal with the devil.

How long until we get an X-Men Reboot?

I figure I pirate enough music that I don't need to start downloading movies (Battle Royal being a notable exception). So I haven't seen the copy of Wolverine that's been making the rounds the last couple weeks. From everything I hear the movie kinda sucks, and more important to the nerd community, Fox has really taken a hatchet to some of the supporting characters that appear in the movie. If Wolverine tanks at the cash register and is universally panned, where does that leave the X-Men franchise? You don't suspect they would just keep rolling out "origin" movies do you? The X-Men sell way to many comics, and attract way to many fan-boys to be an "also ran" at the box office.

Fox has had the movie rights to the X-Men films for years now, and I have no idea when the rights might revert back to Marvel so this is all speculation. Fox was smart when they handed the first two movies over to Bryan Singer, but then they rushed out a poorly written and directed sequel in X-3. It's not just the X-Men franchise that Fox has driven into the ground. They've been rolling out some really crap-tastic movies the last couple of years. Here was last years big summer line up for Fox; X-Files 2, Meet Dave, The Happening, Space Chimps, Babylon AD. Their lone "hit" last summer was What Happens in Vegas, 'nuff said.

Marvel showed last summer that they could produce hits on their own. The Incredible Hulk did really well for a reboot that was only a few years removed from the original. And I don't know anyone that didn't like Iron Man. Maybe it's time for Marvel to wrestle away control of what might be it's most popular intellectual property. It might be a shame to have to recast Wolverine and Professor Xavier, but anything is better than Halle Berry as Storm, right?

At least it still has Liev Schreiber in it, right?

The internets are abuzz with the latest and supposedly the last Wolverine trailer. I gotta admit, I was really eager to see this movie. Even after I found out the producers stuck a black eyed pea in it and decided to shoehorn Gambit and Emma Frost into the plot for no good reason. Now I'm not so sure, yeah the action looks cool, but if you have the time head on over to topless robot. They have pretty good evidence that some marketing genius decided to turn this super bad ass we've come to know and love as Deadpool...

Into this extra from a Marilyn Manson video..

At this point why not just make a new character? Call him Suck-job and save yourself some fanboy venom.

You owe me 10 dollars

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE HD

Now you don't have to go see the reportedly awful remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still to watch the awesomeness of the new Wolverine trailer. It's hard to get to excited about an X-Men movie not done by Bryan Singer. Still this does have Ryan Reynolds and Liev Schreiber in it, but then on the other hand Gambit is in it...
