The Princess is in another Links

Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) Cosplay. It's nice to know cosplayers can still surprise. I never in my life thought I'd see a sexy Bowser costume.

Hasbro are total dicks. Here's a little story about a guy that bought a nerf gun on-line, posted a review and then had Hasbro get all up in his grill. Lesson learned, the toy biz is SERIOUS BUSINESS BRA.

Ethics Lesson from Ty Templeton. Ty makes a pretty funny point about creative rights, and the ethics of buying comics and such. There's so much hand wringing going on over Alan Moore and Jack Kirby these days I think it's important to try and keep everything in perspective before you decide to just boycott DC or Marvel.

Is there really a New Mutants movie in the works? Oh man, I would LOVE a New Mutants movie. After Fox pigeon holed themselves with the X-Men franchise I could see Marvel looking at other popular mutant titles. There's rumor that Disney's animated department is working on an Marvel movie, could this be it?

Everything you need to turn your basement into a Chuck E. Cheese. I can't believe a skee ball machine costs so much. Maybe I could sell some of Logan's Thomas the Tank Engine trains, those things are redonkulously expensive.

The New Links Format, Links

The Avengers Assembled out of everyday stuff. Target has some pretty swank print ads with the Avengers made up of toys and other crap they sell. In related news I hear the early reviews for The Avengers are out of this world (97 percent fresh on rotten tomatoes I believe). In less related news my wife says we have to wait until Sunday to see it opening weekend. In even less related news I might just call in sick to work May 4th and go see it without her.

10 shows cancelled after just one episode. I can't believe the Sklar brothers had a webclip comedy show like 10 years before tosh.o. Chopper 4! Chopper 4!

Your best/worst look at Before Watchmen. Before Watchmen is like Roe v Wade for nerds. Either it's the worst thing ever and DC is raping everyone's memories or Alan Moore is a big hairy idiot that needs to shut his trap and oh my god it's Nite Owl drawn by Darwyn Cooke! Personally, I couldn't care less. Watchmen was like 30 years ago. Call me when Marvel announces Before Spider-Man the Clone Saga.

Everything you need to know about Earth's Mightiest Heroes. ComicsAlliance has a really nice primer on all the movie Avengers. It's a good read, they take pot shots and Hawkeye and mention Thor Frog.

Watchmen babies is a go

In a move that surprised no one other than the gnomes living in Alan Moore's beard, DC announced this morning a new series of Watchmen comics titled Before Watchmen. Here's the rundown on the titles and the writers and artists involved.

RORSCHACH (4 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: Lee Bermejo
MINUTEMEN (6 issues) – Writer/Artist: Darwyn Cooke
COMEDIAN (6 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: J.G. Jones
DR. MANHATTAN (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artist: Adam Hughes
NITE OWL (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artists: Andy and Joe Kubert
OZYMANDIAS (6 issues) – Writer: Len Wein. Artist: Jae Lee
SILK SPECTRE (4 issues) – Writer: Darwyn Cooke. Artist: Amanda Conner

If you're nerdy like me you'll be pretty impressed with the creators they have lined up to work on this. If you're not, you probably stopped reading this a few minutes ago and just scrolled down to ogle Nicole Scherzinger's cleavage some more.

Of course this whole thing is a terrible idea. Watchmen doesn't need a sequel or a prequel or anything, it's perfect the way it is. DC should spend their time either getting better creative teams on their main books or letting their artists and writers work on more original properties. I get it, the 80s were a great decade for comics, instead of mining the past (crisis's for everyone!) why not try and make the 2010s another great decade for comics?

Leftover Links

Chicken Nugget Lover attacks drive up window. I don't not blame this lady one bit. Like the bible says let the one of us who hasn't had a McNugget craving at 6am throw the first stone (I have one of those really progressive modern translations).

John Byrne wants a Rob Liefeld Watchmen sequel. I think this is one of those ideas that's so awful it's awesome again. I'm sure that's the way Alan Moore would want it.

Sharks vs Super-Heroes. I know shark week was last week but do I really need an excuse to post this picture of Snake Eyes fighting a shark?

Watchmen will dazzle and amaze... more or less

If you didn't catch Watchmen (it's not The Watchmen, stupid newscasters) this weekend do your self a favor. Ignore the reviews and the complaints from the nerd hordes and just go see it. It's not Citizen Kane or anything but it's well worth your 10 bucks. Here's the movies opening credits, which are awesome.

....well that was fun for like five minutes, thank you Warner Brothers and your team of lawyers. I found a link to it, but I can't embed it. Still, you should go check it out

Tales of the Black Freighter trailer

I've always thought that one of the more cleverer (sure it's a word) story telling techniques used in the Watchmen is the comic within a comic called the Tales of the Black Freighter. It may make the Watchmen a bit harder to read the first time but on the second or third reading you're able to recognize how much the pirate tale relates to the events happening in the main story.

I'm not so sure I'm a big fan of a stand alone DVD, I'm kind of hoping we'll see some directors cut DVD or blue ray that is able to interweave the comic into the main story. I guess including the story into the main film would have pushed running time to almost 4 hours and have you seen the size of the small coke at a movie theater? No way I can hold out 4 hours without a potty break.

Pass/Fail

Pass

Fail

A bunch of new Watchmen pictures hit the web yesterday and they're all pretty much awesome. I'm not going to sit here and say that the movie will live up to the Graphic Novel, but at least you can tell they're trying.
Of course not to be outdone, a bunch of new GI Joe pictures hit the web this morning, and oh my God they look horrible. Why even call the movie GI Joe? How is that Zartan? Who are the marketing geniuses that decided to strip away everything made GI Joe cool? I swear this movie is going to make House Party 2 look like House Party.
added bonus picture of the Silke Spectre... rowr...

This whole post is pretty much all ripped off from toplessrobot.com. They're awesome.

SDCC Watchmen Footage

Finally here's the extra watchmen footage that was shown at the san diego comic con this year. Not sure if this will last on the you tubes. it's supposed to be an iphone exclusive, so lets all see how big of jerks apple can be about this kind of stuff.
