Apparently if you go to Disneyland dressed as Kylo Ren the First Order Stormtroopers really pull out all the stops for you. I have got to get down there. I don't care if it's like $200 a day now. Think of all the hits you youtube!

Nerf Gun War
This video of kids playing war with their fancy new Nerf guns takes a little while to get to the fireworks factory but when it does, oh baby. I might have to start buying some Nerf guns right now.

Watch this 16 month old kid react to Superman taking flight in The Man of Steel. It's pretty cute.
On a related note I've been home with my sick son the last couple days and during naps I was able to finally watch Man of Steel. It's not bad (there's a quote that won't make the back of the DVD case). There was a lot of stuff I liked about it and a lot of stuff I didn't. The stuff I liked probably outweighed the stuff I didn't by like, oh I don't know, 3? My biggest gripe with the movie (soft spoilers ahead) is that near the middle when Pa Kent dies I wish he had come around with Clark and told him something about keeping the people under the bridge safe at all costs. There are a dozen ways I can think of that Clark could have saved his dad without blowing his secret identity the scene (and really the second half of the movie) would have worked out SO much better if Pa Kent had just said something about staying with his mom or the people he was around safe.
I know a lot of nerds and Superman purists didn't like the movie but I have an easier time separating comics and movies than most. As far as a movie goes it was a thousand times more entertaining than Superman Returns but that's not saying much.

25 Shocking Before & After Photos Of Hurricane Sandy's Destruction. Hurricane Sandy was the first big event I really watched over twitter. It was crazy just following the hashtag and getting live updates from the people that were there experiencing it. It was really fascinating.
Photos From The 1941 Disney Artist Strike That Changed The Studio Forever. It's funny to think about how many artists Disney used to employ. Now I just imagine everyone has been replaced by computers and nerds with green screens and motion capture suits. Maybe I'll live long enough for traditional hand drawn animation to become cool and retro.
20 Smile-Inducing Halloween Costumes for Kids. My son turns 3 in a couple days so I still think he's a little young to go out trick or treating. Lets face it, any candy he gets is going straight to daddy and I don't want to be one of those trick or treaters. However, his daycare is having a big Halloween party today so we had to figure out a costume. He's literally wearing Spider-Man pajamas, it wasn't my best creative work.
Bryan Singer Officially Possibly Not Ruining X-Men: Days Of Future Past. While I think it would have been hilarious if Fox had actually hired McG to direct the next X-Men movie like I predicted, I'm glad they were able to talk Singer into doing it. I don't want the X-Men movies to suck, I want them to be awesome. Now the Justice League movie, that I want to suck. You know what you did Aquaman.

The best part of this video is that now I know what I'm doing for Logan's 5th Birthday party.

This Target commercial featuring a bunch of kids playing Avengers is pretty cool. I'm especially impressed at how good the Hulk looks. I think he looks better here than he did in the Ang Lee directed Hulk. Remember how disappointing that movie was? Yeeesh.
Still, 7-11 had some great Hulk slurpee cups, so I guess it wasn't all bad.

This poem to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Leonardo (he was my favorite too) by Timothy Jefferson is either the cutest or most heartbreaking thing you'll see today. After reading it I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to look my son in the eyes without bawling. I love you Leonardo
You are my only friend
You're big and tall
I'm short and small
On you I do depend
Somebody give this kid a hug!

Cute kid Kumite
This seals it, my son Logan is totally learning some Karate. He's already sort of a bully at day care, if he learned any sort of martial arts he'd be unstoppable.
BTW, have you ever thought about how many kids you could take in a fight? I figure if they're under the age of 5 I could probably take on like 40 or 50 before I punched myself tired. However if they're around 10 I'd probably only be able to take out a handful before they went all 3 ninjas on me.

Awesome dad takes his kids Ewok spotting. Short story long, this dad told his daughter there might be Ewoks in the woods where they were hiking. They never saw any, at least not until he downloaded the pictures of their trip.
10 Things you didn't know about Dazed and Confused. Dazed and confused is one of those movies I didn't want to go see because I knew all my stoner friends just wanted to see people getting high in a movie. Luckily I cave to peer pressure pretty easy.
11 cruelest Aspects of the Biggest Loser. #12 tennis lessons from Anna Kournikova. Just kidding, Anna. No seriously, she's really awful at tennis.
Pictures of the earliest web pages. I'll tell you where I want to go, anywhere but here. BTW, this is my first attempt at linking to a google+ gallery, I have no idea if this link will work if you're not signed up.Thursday, September 15, 2011
Batman is teaching my son to read
Something big happened in my household this last week. Batman taught my son how to read. More specifically a Batman laptop I snuck into the shopping cart last Christmas when my wife wasn't looking has taught him how to read. You see my son loves computers and video games and no it's not just because daddy loves those things. He'll sit there for hours hitting the windows key on my computer, just watching the start button pop up and disappear. He's also a big fan of the scroll wheel on the mouse. It's cute but it's a problem, he deletes things by accident and when I try to drag him from the home office he throws a tantrum. So I thought it would be a good idea to get him one of those silly kids laptops (bear in mind he's not even 2 yet). As it turns out some of those laptops are really freaking expensive, so we bought him this cheap batman toy that's more glorified speak and spell then laptop. Best 20 dollars we've ever spent. It's helped us keep him happy on car trips, plane rides and most importantly diaper changes. I've never thought of it as a real learning toy, just a thing he can push buttons and listen to crappy music with. Then last week something crazy happened.
Batman asked for the letter "c" and Logan pushed the letter "c". Then the letter "l" then "g" then "a". He knows the alphabet. I've been watching him closely all week, and 9 times out of 10 he'll push whatever letter on the keyboard Batman asks for. Logan still can't say mama, but somehow he knows the alphabet. Mom and dad didn't teach it to him, Batman did.
Needless to say I'm beaming with nerdy pride.

So the little lady and I bought our son his very first Halloween costume the other day. Lucky for me the costume shop was out of the one my wife wanted and we got the one I really wanted. Mother F'in Darth Vader. Obviously It says a lot about me that I think dressing our 11 month old up as the baddest Sith Lord ever is super cute. Of course it says even more about me that I insisted we also buy him a light saber, because without one what's the point? And before you ask, yes I made sure we bought him one that actually looks like Darth Vader's, not Luke's or Obi Wan's.
oh God, I'm such a geek...
The good news is I'm not alone! Check out this mini gallery of kids forced to wear stupid crap all because their parents are obsessive dorks.
