Iron Man 3 Teaser for Iron Man 3 Super Bowl Commerical

Last night I found myself watching CBS's Greatest Super Bowl Commercials of all time when I realized I was watching a TV show about commercials. Not only that but they weren't highlighting the greatest commercials of all time, they were highlighting the best commercials of the last 5 or 6 years by companies that will also be running super bowl commercials this year. Ugh... I expect better Aisha Tyler.

Oh yeah, here's a teaser for the new Iron Man 3 commercial. Save me Tony Stark, you're my only hope.

7 Video Games That Are Going To Be Surprisingly Successful In 2013. I haven't even heard of this Remember Me game, it looks fantastic. It also looks like one of those "next gen" games everyone is waiting for. There's just no way this thing is running on an Xbox 360 or PS3, it has to be a high end PC rig.

Video Games are a Bigger Problem than Guns. Says a US Senator. Clearly we shouldn't be arming soldiers with assault rifles, we should give them copies of Mortal Kombat and Doom II. (sigh) I'm all for a serious conversation about the impact of movies and tv shows and video games on the youth of America, but the people that are in the NRA's pocket are acting like fools. No study has definitively linked violent video games with violent behavior. In fact there's pretty good empirical evidence that as our entertainment has become more violent over the years actual violence has gone down. But whatever, comics had to go through a similar witch hunt in the 50s and they got through that. Video Games will be just fine.

Adam WarRock's 'Watch The Throne (X)' Is The Next Mutation Of Hip Hop. This isn't as good as his X-factor EP or the recently released Mjolnir single, but it's still free Adam WarRock. Seriously, it's free. All you have to do is right click and save. What are you still doing here?

Well Endowed Mortal Kombat Kitana Mousepad. I'm pretty sure this would get me fired at work and divorced at home but if you want to get one, please be my guest. Nothing weird about that at all.

This is why I don't work out.

or it's 'cause I'm lazy. whatever man.

Crysis 3: Multiplayer Trailer

I like that we've gotten to the point with video games that you don't just get a trailer. You get a trailer specific to the multiplayer portion of a game. Here's Crysis 3, which if you've spent 2 grand on a PC upgrade in the last 6 months you might be able to play on low settings. By that I mean, this thing looks redonkulous. Maybe I'll sell my car so I can afford a high end gaming rig. Who doesn't love riding the bus?

That's not how you do that.

This video was billed as "The Worst Ski Jump Ever" and it's kinda hard to dispute that. I'm sure people have gotten hurt worse at ski jumping, but the fact that this guy only makes it... well I don't want to ruin it. Enjoy!

The LFL is dead, long live the LFL!

After a year hiatus The Lingerie Football league is no more. However the LEGENDS Football League is totally a thing now. Gone are the skimpy uniforms, replaced by less frilly skimpy uniforms. Gone are the old team names and logos, in are the same team names and slightly different logos? I don't know, what am I the lingerie football ombudsman?

What I do know, is that only serious athletes give interviews to Fox News in their uniforms.

Serious athletes.

Columbia: A Modern Day Icarus?

People are Awesome 2013

I don't like to just throw around the word redonkulous all willy nilly, but might I say this video is redonkulous. I can't imagine all the mountain dew these people must have chugged to get this EXTREME.

More or Les and Fresh Kils: Pop and Chips

The first line of this song is "Boom, start with an onomatopoeia" and can you believe it gets even better after that?

I like More or Les, but I really think I'm falling in love with Fresh Kils. After you check this out go look him up on youtube and watch some of him mpc routines. They are awesome.

That Guy to Direct That Movie

According to Everyone on the Internet it's officially official. JJ Abrams has been hired to direct Star Wars VII: The Wrath of the Endless Lens Flare joke. I guess this is news I'm supposed to care about but I don't. Abrams is a perfectly serviceable director. He's no Señor Spielbergo but it's not a complete hack either. Still it's hard for me to work up any excitement for new Star Wars movies, even with Disney at the helm. I mean, have you seen Cars 2? ugh.

Wake me when they cast Grand Admiral Thrawn. That's when I'll start getting excited.

The People vs Winter

I love watching videos of people doing stupid things in the snow. I'm starting to worry that we're not going to get any snow this year. We had like 10 straight days of freezing fog but no snow. I could do without last year's blizzard that knocked out our power for 4 days, maybe just enough to get out of work for a couple days. I've got Xcom to play.

Carry On My Wayward Son

Here's Carry On My Wayward Son performed by a trombone quartet.

True story, I can't tell Kansas apart from Styx. In fact have you ever seen Kansas and Styx in the same room? Think about it.

Ski Slope Skill Levels. HA. I remember skiing. Good times.

Why You May Never See Another Episode Of ‘Don’t Trust The B—- In Apt. 23′ Again. BOOOOOOO! What am I going to do without my weekly fix of The Beek? How on earth does Don't Trust the B get cancelled while Two Broke Girls is a hit? What's wrong with you America?

A Beginner's Guide to DIYing with the Raspberry Pi. Put this in the category of things I would love to play with except I can't because I'm married and have a toddler and have limited free time.

Skiing/snowboarding PC game SNOW sounds terrific. I love snowboarding games, but there hasn't been a good (non SSX) once since what ESPN X-Games Snowboarding on the PC? The first Amped had a great game structure to it, but woof, it was terrible to play. I know they made a bunch of sequels but I'm pretty sure they were all terrible too. Shaun White? Again, terrible game mechanics. I seriously think snowboarding games might have peaked with 1080 on the N64. Anyhoo, this game SNOW sounds like it could be cool.

You're Probably a Hipster

The Ideal Channel, which I've been told is a thing from PBS, has made this video asking "Aren't we all a little bit of a hipster?".

Screw you PBS, does having a mohawk in your mid-30s make you a hipster? Does not listening to music on the radio, or any band signed to a major label make you a hipster? Does enjoying soccer and comic books make you a hipster? Does drinking PBR while playing disc golf make you a hipster? Please PBS, I think I would know if I was a hipster.

Previously on the X-Men

I saw this over on cracked.com a couple days ago. Someone edited together a bunch of random scenes from the 1990's X-Men Cartoon. It's pretty hilarious.

Lately I've been trying to get Logan interested in cartoons that aren't Diego or Wonderpets so I've been watching a ton of old cartoons on Netflix. Surprisingly, the old X-Men cartoons hold up pretty well. A lot better than say Transformers or GI Joe. I mean the animation is still terrible but at least it doesn't feel like they were written by a 10 year old that speaks English as a second language.

MC Frontalot: Nerd Life

MC Frontalot put out a new song and video this week in collaboration with some internet marketing company. It's not the best Frontalot video ever but the beat is pretty good and hey, a nerdcore rapper has to get paid.

I'll tell you what my least favorite part of the video is. It's that awful Hansen's natural soda he's drinking. Jeesh who likes that crap? I'd rather chug a can of slurm.

The proper way to thank Donald Trump over twitter

I Fight Dragons: cRaZie$

The 5 members of I Fight Dragons take a vacation to a cabin in the woods. They find a box of old video game equipment in the basement with a game they've never heard of called 'HipsterNomicon' and decide to plug it in. What could go wrong?

Here Is What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan in Your Movie. If you haven't already read this run don't walk to the New York Times web site right now. The Times had an embedded journalist on set of Lindsay Lohan's latest film The Canyons. Lindsay's behavior is getting all the press, but parts of the story that interested me more were all the behind the scenes production stuff. It's a real interesting read.

The Man Who Killed Spider-Man. Short but good article by the Village Voice about Dan Slott (the writer for The Amazing Spider-Man) and the shitstorm surrounding the "death" of Peter Parker.

King of the Nerds Crew Member Responds to Backlash. A few years back there was a show on the CW called Beauty and the Geek, where they would team up a stereotypical nerdy guy with a stereotypical hot chick to compete against other teams of beauties and geeks to win fabulous prizes. It was totally exploitative and had a lot of "hey look at how stupid/nerdy this guy/girl is" moments but at the same time it went the extra mile to present the contestants as actual people with actual human feelings (who knew, right?). TBS's King of the Nerds looks like they will take that same format give it a wedgie and stuff it in a locker. F-U TBS.

Wrangler’s New Jeans Are a Skin-Softening Spa in Your Pants. Not wanting to be pigeonholed as the jeans that keep you from squishing your balls, Wrangler has invented jeans that will moisturize your skin as you wear them. I am not making this up.

Cyberpunk 2077

This is a couple days old now but I'm just catching up on all the stuff I've bookmarked over the week, so bear with me. Cyberpunk 2077 has been making a lot of hay lately based on this super slick trailer. The details are kind of sparse but it's made by the same guys who did The Witcher games, which I've heard are great. Other than that the only thing I can tell you is that it's an RPG and it's set in a future that sure looks a lot like Blade Runner.

Hopefully this won't be Dead Island all over again.

The Job You Want

This is good advice. Tomorrow I'm wearing my utility belt to work.

My Big Bang Theory Theory

I don't know how much you pay attention to these things but last week The Big Bang Theory was thrown an extra amount of shade by net nerds after this trailer for last weeks episode went on line. I say extra shade because most net nerds HATE Big Bang Theory.

Personally I don't hate the show, in fact I kind of like it (GASP!). I'm sure in someone's eyes that makes me a bad nerd or a fake nerd or some sort of self loathing nerd but whatevers, I don't have time for your labels man. I have a literal closet full of comics and for reals named my son Logan because Wolverine is my second favorite comic book character and my wife wouldn't let me name our kid Peter.

Pictured: Nerd Cred

I couldn't tell you why I like the show, maybe it's because I'm from a generation that would literally sit through 20 minutes of the Electric Company just to get a 30 second glimpse of a guy in a super shitty Spider-Man costume. Maybe I'm just sliding into CBS s target demo, whatever the reason it doesn't really matter. I've never felt the characters (or big ol' Nerds) were made out for ridicule anymore than any other sitcom character ever has been. There's two types of characters in a sitcom, ridiculous over the top caricatures and straight men. Do you think doctors get offended over how they're portrayed in Scrubs? I guess the point I'm making is that I've never been offended by the show. At least not until last weeks episode.

If you've already watched the trailer above, or if you saw the episode, you'll know that the plot had all the girls going where no girls have gone before: The Comic Book Shop. The way it's edited, the trailer is more offensive than the actual episode was. In the episode the guy that runs the shop was helpful and actually gave great advice to the girls looking for comics (although to stay current he should have recommended Saga over Fables). The really offensive part was how the customers in the shop were portrayed and how later in the episode the comics (superhero books in particular) were dismissed as immature and childish. Seriously F-U CBS. There are girls in the shop I go to all the time and superhero comics are rad. You know what's stupid? 2 Broke Girls, that show sucks and is racist as hell.

Here come the new X-Women X-Men

Yesterday Marvel made a relatively big splash in the small pool that is comic books by announcing a new X-Men title comprised entirely of X-ladies. The series is going to be written by Brian Wood and drawn by Olivier Coipel. I don't think I've ever read anything Wood has written but Coipel is one of my favorite artists so I'll definitely give the book a try.

This is the second comic with an all female line up Marvel has announced in the last couple month (Fearless Defenders was the other) and it all comes on the heels of the critical success they seem to be having with the Captain Marvel reboot. I've seen varying numbers over how many women read comics (usually from 10-30 percent of the overall readership) so I guess it makes sense that Marvel would reach out to them. Although an argument could be made that girls don't necessarily want to read comics all about girls anymore than guys want to read comics all about guys. Still, a demo is a demo, and Marvel has always been behind DC when it comes to the success of its female heroes.

I'm more excited for the book because it looks to be a throwback to the Claremont stories of the 1980's without actually involving Chris Claremont. Also I'm a sucker for punk rock Storm.

Warp Whistle Brings Mario to Real World 1-1

Not much going on today and I had to work all weekend so I didn't get a chance to queue up some posts for slow mornings like this. I went through my folder of drafts and saw this half done post about some sort of Mario World video that I never used. Blogger doesn't let me run youtube clips int he preview anymore so I have no idea what this is about.

enjoy!

New Game of Thrones trailer is terrible

But here it is anyway. Seriously, HBO get your act together. Would it kill you to show at least on beheading in this thing?

Schaffer the Darklord: The Bender

This song's a couple years old now but it's still pretty awesome. I'm pretty sure Schaffer the Darklord is the only nerdcore rapper that can get away with a video full of strippers and drugs.

BTW, this is totally not safe for work. Unless maybe you work in a strip club, in that case go for it bro.

Why the Newspaper industry is dying

I'm going to start ending all my conversations with "lol nope"

Come on Down, Links

How My Foolproof Scientific System Got Us Onto The Price Is Right. Oh man, even though I'm sure I would do terrible at it, I would love to get on the Price is Right. Wheel of Fortune is more my speed. True story that my wife can attest to: A couple months ago I got a puzzle without a single letter turned. The category was Books and Authors and the answer was The Old Man and The Sea. Seriously, no letters turned. I would kill on Wheel.

Meet The Justice League Of Defaced American Currency. I think this is technically illegal.

Elusive giant squid captured on video in the ocean deep for first time. Oh man, I love me some old timey sea creatures like this. If I was an evil genius I would totally put my evil lair underwater so I could watch giant squid and sharks swim by all day while I plot my evil plans. Not that I've given it much thought or anything.

Sony And Microsoft Should Be Worried About The Steam Box. Very Worried. I almost didn't post this because it's full of soo many assumptions clearly designed at hit-bait. First off, Valve showed up at ECS this year with a half dozen prototypes of what a possible steam box might look like, and Kotaku has to run with a design that wasn't one of them but a high end mini-computer made by the guys that will "probably" make the Steam Box. Internet journalism at it's finest.

The real point here is that the Steam Box is a threat to Sony and Microsoft. People want to play games, and except for a handful of loyalists most consumers don't care who makes the magic box that allows them to play the new Madden and COD. If Valve can make a mini-pc that allows people to play big name games at the PC price with free on-line play then they could definitely steal some market share from the big two.

Intel AMD Inside part 2

It seems like from the year 1995 (when I got my first pentium PC) to the year 2004 (when half life 2 came out) I've always been tinkering with the internal components of my PC. Most of the time it was simple upgrades but every few years or so it was wholesale motherboard/CPU swaps. That is until 2006 when my wife and I got a new PC from her parents and an Xbox 360 from our friends as wedding gifts (that sounds ridiculous when I type it, we are truly blessed with great family and friends). With that Xbox I pretty much stopped PC gaming. Without gaming pushing me to keep my PC in top flight condition I didn't even look at upgrading it until late last year when it stopped booting.

That was the long way of saying that I haven't tried putting together a new PC in a while. So last night when I started tearing apart my old PC at 5pm and was back on twitter with a new motherboard/CPU and fresh install of windows by 10pm I was pretty pleased. If I didn't have a family holding me back (jk Aryn) I would have been done by 8pm easy.

What's this mean for you the reader of this nonsense? Nothing other than I've been able to squeeze one more personal story into the blog on a really slow nerdy news day (which is weird with CES going on). Also I might talk more about PC gaming than I have in the past. Maybe I'll even do a Far Cry 3 or XCom review months after it could be helpful to anyone.

New Pacific Rim Trailer

.. kind of. This is a special CES trailer that includes like 2 seconds of extra footage and some nice qualcomm product placement. Still, Robots fighting Godzilla.

Let's never go Zorbing

This video of a Zorbing accident is either an internet hoax or a horrible horrible tragedy. I saw it on reddit so I'm going to say 60/40 in favor of hoax. Either way it's scary as I'll get out, strapped into a giant hamster wheel getting thrown off a mountain is not the way I want to go. Death by snu snu for me.

Everything Wrong with The Dark Knight Rises

I'm more or less a Dark Knight Rises apologist. I don't think it's as bad, disappointing or as overhyped as a lot of net nerds did. I didn't even mind that the end (spoilers!), where movie Batman hung up the cowl, was completely antithetical to Batman in the comics. I thought it was a fun movie and was just as good as Batman II Joker Boogaloo minus the amazing performance Heath Ledger gave. Seriously, you want to talk about plot holes The Dark Knight had tons of them.

So with that in mind enjoy this video where they run through everything wrong with The Dark Knight Rises in just over 3 minutes. It's pretty hilarious, making fun of Batman and Bane's voices will never get old.

My Man Friday Links

The Future Of TV May Not Be Worth It. Man I'm tired of net nerds screaming for ala carte cable pricing. I get it, you only watch Hulu and Netflix and would pay 10 dollars a month for an HBO Go Subscription, well la di freaking da. There are still a lot of people (like me) who can't get any local channels over the air because of where they live and even more that don't have access to reliable broadband. Lets face it most 'muricans just want to sit on the couch hit one button and flip though channels until their brain is nice and mushy. Just read the article, it's the best analysis of the entire cable tv situation I've seen in quite a while.

Works that should be in the Public Domain. When I bookmarked this I really thought this list would have more interesting movies and books than it really does. Oh well, it's still interesting to read about copyright law, right? Seriously, I think it's interesting. I guess I'm weird that way.

29 Albums that are now 20 years old. Vs is 20 year old and it's Pearl Jam's SECOND record. Wow, when do I start getting social security checks and discounts at Denny's.

Who is that Hot Ad Girl? Ever seen an actress in a commercial and wondered "who is that" but been to lazy to actually go to the google machine and try and find her? Well then, today is your lucky day!

Intel AMD Inside

If you've been reading the blog with any consistency you'll know that I'm having problems with my home PC and not little problems, big blue screen of death problems. Well after a little googling and diagnostic work I've been able to figure out my problem, or at least narrow it down to a memory error. Not to get too geeky on you but last night I ran memtest on a 2 gig chip and got over 42 errors in about a minutes time. Of course the same chip when switched to a different ram slot scanned clean, so I think I'm dealing with a bad board.

My options for fixing this were pretty limited. I'm working with an odd speed of Ram (800mhz) and a really old processor (2 ghz celeron dual core), I could find a "new" motherboard but all my options would probably be over priced crap and not worth the upgrade. So, I've decided to take my talents to south beach. More specifically an AMD APU. I took some of my Christmas money and put it towards some new pieces for my PC.

Now let it be known, I'm spending less than $200 on this upgrade but at the end of the day I should have a computer that, if Newegg reviews are to be trusted, will actually play newer games on low to medium settings. Plus I'll have the option of upgrading to a much better video card if I'm so inclined. Essentially I went hog wild with the motherboard and cheap with the memory and CPU/APU giving me multiple upgrade options down the road.

This is a pretty big deal for me, I haven't had a PC that will play current games since Half Life 2. I'm looking forward to trying out some newer games (X-Com: Enemy Unknown comes to mind) that I probably wouldn't look at on the Xbox due to the nature of the controller. Now if I can get it all put together and working without it catching fire.

Every Stan Lee Movie Cameo (kind of)

This is fun video of every Stan Lee cameo he's made in any Marvel Comics movie. Two things: First, I really wish he had made a cameo in Blade, like maybe during the blood dance orgy scene. That would have been amazeballs. Second, I know it's not a Marvel movie but I wish this video had his cameo in Mallrats where he talks about The Thing's thing.

Noobz is the greatest worst thing I've ever seen

What If I told you there was a movie staring Casper Van Dien, Jason Mewes all about the professional video gaming circuit? Also it looks like it features cameos by video game luminaries Adam Sessle, Bill Bellamy and a guy that kinda looks like the guy that played the Single Guy. The plot may or may not be a rip off of both Grandma's Boy and The Wizard. Not interested yet? Here's the poster:

So when are we going to see this? It hits select theaters January 25 and then DVD January 29th (not a joke). I'll start waiting in line at AMC tonight, B you start waiting in line at Best Buy tomorrow.

The Real Names of Game of Thrones

I saw this list of common names for the characters of Game of Thrones earlier today on reddit and I thought I'd share. I especially like the names for all the Kings. I would have gone with "OMG Sansa is the worst Stark" over "Ginger Stark" though.

Super Great Toilet Keeper

If I told you 2013 was going to be the year of the Super Great Toilet Keeper, would you believe me? Because you better believe me, this soccer playing toilet is the most exciting goal keeper I've seen since Rene Higuita.

23 Ungrateful Kids Who Didn't Like What They Got For Christmas. Christmas this year was killer, I got a bunch of clothes and books I wanted and Logan was practically swimming in toys. Oh yeah, all these ungrateful kids on twitter should be shot into the sun.

Your SNES Carts Might Be In Trouble. This is How You Can Save Them. Ack Batteries! My copy of A Link to the Past is near 16 years old, If Logan is ever going to play it I'm going to need to replace the internal battery. It can't be more difficult than replacing the thermostat sensor on a 2003 Nissan Sentra, right?

25 Mind Bogglingly good cosplays from 2012. Holy Balls, these are getting out of hand. I'm pretty sure these aren't normal nerds but big time Hollywood costumers trolling us on the internet.

Call of Duty's Biggest Problem? Penis Swastikas. Back in my COD days I used to see these all the time (well normal swastikas not penis swastikas, that's new). It bottles my mind to think that in the year 2013 there are people out there that are like "Hey, let's be racist and get banned from this game. That sounds awsome!".
