Battlefield 4: 17 minutes in your face

So here's 17 minutes of Battlefield 4. It looks great and I really want to play it badly (even though I burnt out on Battlefield 3 rather quickly). What sucks here is that this is due out this year, probably for Christmas. So either I can play a neutered version on the 360 or my PC or I can blow $500 on a new console and one game. Which considering there's a baby on the way and my car just internally exploded really isn't an option.

Maybe I can sell the baby for a PS4. Although if I sell the baby I won't have all that sweet baby holding video gaming time I got when Logan was a baby. I swear I beat COD MW2 like 4 times that Christmas.

Gift of the Magi man, Gift of the Magi..

The Wolverine: The Trailer

Here the trailer for The Wolverine. That's all you're getting. I'm on vacation for the next two days. If you need me I'll be sitting in my underwear watching TV eating a big block of cheese.

World War Z: Trailer #B

Here's the second trailer for World War Z, or as I like to call it "Hollywood didn't learn anything from I am Legend, part infinity". Seriously this movie has it all, and by all I mean a thousand things the book doesn't have. Why can't we have nice things? Is it because of the high school girls dunk contest I posted earlier? That one girl did a cartwheel, that was impressive!

Dunk City II

Ok so you weren't impressed with FCGU's white boys on dunk parade? I guess it's time to turn this up to 11 (on a scale of 100) with this High School girls dunk contest.

Yeesh... I'm all for kids having fun on a lowered rim. I spent an entire week of my senior year dunking on 6 graders on an 8 foot hoop (it was for a school project I swear) but I didn't do it at a pep rally full of classmates and family. And thank goodness I didn't, one of those 6th graders blocked one of my shots... To be fair she was really good, though.

Dunk City

In case you missed it because you were working all weekend, here are some highlights of FGCU's win over Georgtown and San Diego State. How did a #15 seed in the men's NCAA tournament make it all the way to the sweet 16? They employed the effective strategy of dunking. All the time.

Seriously I haven't seen this many white guys dunking since the last time I played on the 8 foot rims at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard. BOOOMSHAKALAKA!

edit! I posted the wrong video... This one has WAY more dunking.

Biting Elbows: Bad Motherf*cker

This video by Biting Elbows called Bad Motherfucker has been making the rounds this week. It's essentially a short film using a first person shooter perspective with the song as a soundtrack. I think it's pretty awesome but I'm a simple man with simple tastes. I just want to see a guy hit another guy with a cue ball and then shoot him in the face.

Star Trek into Darkness: The International Trailer

Here's the new international trailer for Generic Action Movie set in space with briefcameo from the Starship Enterprise (tm).

I'm starting to think that JJ Abrams is just trolling us nerds. Star Trek is going to be this epic space action movie full of scoundrels and magic while his new Star Wars is going to be an intellectual hard sci-fi study of humanity. It's like he's getting peanut butter all over my chocolate!

Fire the Links

Internet Killed The Video Star: The Extraordinary Journey Of Adam Sessler. Even if you're not a big fan of Adam Sessler this article works as a mini history of ZDTV, TechTV and G4. Also is a pretty interesting look into how a lot of cable networks are run by morons. Good luck Esquire network. I can't wait for all those "classy" Cops reruns.

Bad Kids Jokes. LOL

Someone Please Buy This 1991 Saab. Man I am this close to giving up on my Nissan Sentra. Yesterday I started having coolant issues. If i do decide to get rid of the car I would like to think I'll come up with a super clever ad like this Saab one. Let's be honest though, I'll probably just trade it in to the dealer for a couple grand and free undercoating.

Report: Humanity Leaves the Solar System — Or Maybe Not. I knew Voyager I was still out there but I had no idea that scientists are still able to talk to it. Its literally Billions of miles from the earth and we're still getting data from it, 35 years after its launch. Oh yeah, and it just left the solar system. Science is rad.

Ant-Man teaser footage: watch it while you can

Edgar Wright has been showing off a minute long teaser for the Ant-Man movie he's trying to make, since... I think it was last summer when I first heard about it. Finally someone had the sense to pull their iPhone out of their pocket while watching it.

Like I said get it while you can. I figure Marvel should have a team of Disney Lawyers all up in this in a matter of hour.

Stahp it Game of Thrones, Just Stahp

The fine folks at HBO would like to remind you that Game of Thrones is back in a couple weeks and it's going to be AWESOME IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY.

Seriously, this trailer looks so amazing. I don't know how they made both the Unsullied and the Wall look so awesome when they're working on a shoestring budget but they did. Also Joffrey looks particularly slappable. I can't wait for the dragons to eat him. Sorry, Spoilers!

the dragons don't really eat him...

or do they?

they dont..

Frozen Endzone: turn based robot football sim

I know pretty much zero about this new game Frozen Endzone other than it looks really cool. I'm guessing it's a steam game or Xbox arcade deally, I can't imagine it's a regular $60 release. I played a lot of Cyberball in the arcade so robot football brings back a lot of fond memories. Also the TI-99 had a pretty good turn based football game, at least when I was 5 I thought it was good. I'm guessing that since this is turn based it will include a bunch of RPG elements and I'm all about RPG elements these days... not a real RPG mind you. What do I look like, some kinda nerd?

Game of Links

Leaked Star Wars Game Is ‘Predecessor’ To Battlefront III, Source Says. Word on the street is that there are two new big Star Wars games right around the corner. Both first person shooters one a low rent Battlefield III clone that would be a cheapo downloaded game (maybe free to play?) the other an actual honest to goodness Battlefront III. There was some video that came with these screenshots but it was pulled by Lucasarts almost immediately. I guess the whole Disney situation put a big hold on all the games they were working on. I bet they'll end up as next gen releases when all is said and done. Also I will play the beejeezus out of them.

10 Books to Read While Waiting for new Game of Thrones. Woohoo stuff to read when I'm done with Lord of the Rings! In related news I'm reading the Lord of the Rings books right now. For whatever reason I've never read them, I know nerd fail. So far I've read the Hobbit and I'm about halfway through Fellowship. Turns out they're WAY different than the movies. Who knew?

16 Obscenely Over the Top Home Theaters. I've been looking at rearranging the furniture in my basement. Maybe moving where the TV is and getting rid of a couple chairs. I think I'll put in a batmobile and some chandeliers instead.

Minka Kelly Will Co-Star In J.J. Abrams’s New Show About Robot Cops Or Something. Six seasons and a movie!

Batman in classic movie scenes

More specifically insanely gravely voiced Christian Bale Batman in classic movie scenes. I know this joke seems kind of like a one trick pony, but keep watching until they get to Home Alone. Classic Macaulay Culkin.

Meet the Wolfdog

Old Spice does it again with their latest commercial, Meet the Wolfdog. It barely needs to be said but these guys are the Old Spice commercial factory are the best. After watching this I just hung out on the Old Spice youtube channel for like 20 minutes. All hail Wolfdog.

Kick-Ass 2: Kick Assier

A new redband trailer for Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall hit the web today. It looks good. Really good.

Kick-Ass was a movie I was really excited for and ended up really liking, even though I didn't care much for the source material. It's rare that I bail on a limited series but I think I only made it through the 4th issue of Kick-Ass. I guess the idea of a movie about regular people that decide to try and be comic book heroes works for me more than a comic book about regular people that decide to try and be comic book heroes. Maybe I just prefer to see kids swearing than I do read about kids swearing. Whatever it is I'm pumped and stoked for this.

The Image Revolution

This trailer for The Image Revolution is right up my alley. I just read Marvel Comics: The Untold Story and one of the most interesting sections of the book is about how Marvel dominated the comic industry in the early nineties only to see it all crumble around them as a group of their most popular creators left.

I started reading comics around 1986 but I didn't really start collecting them until the early 90s, so I vividly remember how blown my mind was when Larsen, Lee, Liefeld and McFarlane (and others) decided to ditch Marvel and start their own comic book company. I'm pretty sure I carried an article about it clipped from the front page of USA Today around in the front of my trapper keeper all of my sophomore year. Needless to say, I'm super interested in seeing this documentary about the founding of Image comics.

It's easy to deride those early Image books. Everything was late, the quality on a lot of the titles was sub-par and they weren't the most sophisticated books you've ever read. Still, the fact that Image has survived for 20 years and become the place to be for creator owned comics is a tremendous legacy.

I'm gonna ink this drawing...

Normally I'd save something like this for my art blog but oh man does this cartoon by Spencer at heymonster. hit home. You have no idea how many times I've ruined a picture in the first like 2 minutes of inking it. It's even worse these days now that I'm using more color. Years ago my dad built me a light box and next to actual pen and paper it's probably the most important tool I use.

Anyhoo, if you ever get a call from me because I drove my car into a river, you'll know why.

Reminder: I'm very excited about GI Joe: Retaliation

Every time someone says that GI Joe: Retaliation looks like shit I get super indignant and say something to the effect of "Snake-Eyes shoots throwing stars out of the air with a uzi. your argument is invalid".

So without further ado, here's the scene where Snake-Eyes shoots throwing stars out of the air with an uzi. It's everything I want a GI Joe movie to be.

Emerald City Comic-Con Cosplay part III

As I mentioned on monday, I actually went to Emerald City Comic-Con this year! I didn't get to stay very long but what I did see I really liked. Next year I think I'll get a couple 3 day passes when they first go on sale. Maybe I'll even convince my wife to come with one day. Anyhoo, there was a lot of cool cosplay, enough for multiple posts hence the "part III". Some of these I saw in person, some I just saw on tumblr or twitter and nabbed them for this post. If you own any of these let me know, I'll take it down if you like or hook you up with a link.

Clear Winner of skimpiest costume

I swear this was a real Jawa

The question is where did he find that amazing hat?

There were many good Assassins who I assume live by some sort of Creed.

There was however only one Darth Bagpipes riding on a unicycle

Wait a minute, aren't the White Ranger and the Green Ranger the same guy?

This Galactus eats Earths made of solid Chocolate Oranges

White Storm! (inside joke)

Daddy, what am I dressed as?

A real Mastif would have put this one over the top.

This is hands down the awesomest Two Face ever.

What's up Miss H.

New Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer

Hey kids, it's a new Star Trek trailer. I like it, still barely any Cumberbatch in it but that's ok. Zoe Saldana in a sci-fi wetsuit more than makes up for it.

I'm still a bit worried that the a movie called STAR TREK doesn't look like it has many scenes in space, hopefully they're just saving the good stuff for the movie.

Kid Apocalypse: Came from the Chain

I unknowingly featured Kid Apocalypse earlier in the week in one of my Emerald City Comic-Con cosplay posts (last one should be up this weekend). I had no idea he was spitting mad rhymes and recording a music video at the con. It reminds me a lot of the Wordburglar video Drawings with Words.

Deadpool video game looks awful or awful good

A second trailer for the Deadpool game by Activision and High Moon Studios hit the web a couple days ago. It's not very good. Sure, it's entertaining in it's own right but as far as a video game trailer goes it's a complete failure. Unless this is all the game is, an updated version of Dragon's Lair or Space Ace. 30 minutes of FMV where the Pool man just cracks awful jokes and shoots guys in the face.

Maybe I'm just an old crank, cinematic trailers like this that don't show any gameplay are a complete loss on me. Dead Island fooled me once, shame on Deadpool for fool me... umm... twice fooled once.... ummm strategery.

The Average Links

Stick Your NES, SNES, Genesis, and GBA Cartridges in the RetroN 4. I've gotta say, this thing looks pretty cool. I have a working snes that I play all the time but I never did have an NES or a Genesis and there are a lot of good games on those two systems. Those second generation top loading NES's go for big money on ebay. If it works, why not get a replica system?

Trash, bullets and feces found in former Sonic Swift's squalid home. At first this story made me laugh as to how absurd it sounded. Former NBA first round pick Robert Swift living squatting in a foreclosed home. Sounds high-larious until you see the condition of the house and all the stuff he left behind. Mo Money Mo Problems, I guess.

One Brave Blogger has Finally Discovered the Average Porn Star. Yeah, yeah, yeah google search bait. Seriously, this is kind of interesting. I learned that I actually weigh less than the average american man. Go me.

Watch an Olympic Pole Vaulter Go From Ecstatic Joy to Child-Like Tirade. This is pretty brutal. Renaud Lavillenie thought he had cleared 6.07m, which would have ranked him as the second best pole vaulter ever, but he didn't. The crossbar bounced off the standard just enough to count as a fault but not enough to actually fall. His meltdown is pretty epic.

Emerald City Comic-Con Cosplay part Deux

As I mentioned on monday, I actually went to Emerald City Comic-Con this year! Kind of. I only went on Friday and the line to get in was so long I was only there for about 3 hours tops. It was really disappointing. What I did see I really liked and I will go back next year. I just won't make the same mistake of trying to go after work on a Friday. Anyhoo, there was a lot of cool cosplay, enough for multiple posts hence the "part deux". Some of these I saw in person, some I just saw on tumblr or twitter and nabbed them for this post. If you own any of these let me know, I'll take it down if you like or hook you up with a link.

This guy was in line behind us in these stilts. 2 hours in stilts. you go man.

That's is one of the cleverest Eddie Brock/Venom outfits I've ever seen.

”I’m not a psychopath Anderson, I’m a high-functioning sociopath"

"not bad for a fuzzball"

I almost thought that was Robert Downey Jr for a sec.

I'm not saying that Black Canary made me do a double take... I'm typing it.

Kid Apocalypse + Rick Remender = Squeee!

The R2 Units were the highlight of the con for me. Not kidding at all.

Cool, but if he had a friend dressed as The Stalk that would have been something

Lady Cyclops was very popular. Much more so than regular Cyclops. I wonder why?

New Iron Man 3 trailer

This is the new UK trailer for Iron Man 3 (notice the April release date as opposed to the May 2nd date for us states-siders) and it has a ton of new footage. More Guy Pierce, more War Machine/Iron Patriot, more explosions, more Robert Downey Jr in a tank top.. just more of everything.

Remember us Books?

Monday, March 4, 2013

Winter is still coming.

Last week we saw a new Game of Thrones trailer that was infinitely better than the last couple teasers HBO had released. Today we have a new trailer that's infinitesimally better than the trailer we saw last week. It has like 4 extra seconds of footage. It does however have %1000 more bears!

Emerald City Comic-Con Cosplay part Uno

Hey, I actually went to Emerald City Comic-Con this year! Kind of. I only went on Friday and the line to get in was so long I was only there for about 3 hours tops. It was really disappointing. What I did see I really liked and I will go back next year. I just won't make the same mistake of trying to go after work on a Friday. Anyhoo, there was a lot of cool cosplay, enough for multiple posts later this week. Some of these I saw in person, some I just saw on tumblr or twitter and nabbed them for this post. If you own any of these let me know, I'll take it down if you like or hook you up with a link.

The Mass Effect Cosplay was better than Mass Effect 3 (or so I've heard)

SPOOOOOOOOOON!

There's a fist joke in here that I don't feel comfortable making

I saw at least 4 PGs and not a one wearing her godawful new uniform. take notes DC.

This girl was everywhere, that gun was super impressive.

Creeper in the beard is epic.

ACK, cutest kid ever!

DOUBLE ACK, I can't handle all the cute!

Aren't you a little short/tall for a Stormtrooper?
