Cloverfield 2?

Hey kids, remember Cloverfield? Here's a trailer for the sequel, which might not be a sequel if you believe the random people on twiter who were talking about it yesterday.

There's pretty much zero official information about the movie. The title showed up on a list of trailers that were scheduled to run at like AMC theaters or something, then one of them leaked on line via Jerry Seinfeld like DeathBlow camera and boom this morning the official trailer is available on Facebook and Youtube.

Apparently the only small piece of information that we can confirm is that this movie used to be called Valencia and was only changed to 10 Cloverfield Lane at the last minute. There's nothing in the trailer that would lead you to believe it was related to 2008's Cloverfield but isn't that just like JJ Abrams? Could it be a movie set in the "Cloverfield" universe but dealing with an entirely different set of events? Maybe this is a prequel, maybe this is related to the Cloverfield project that was only briefly referred to in the first movie. Whatever the big mystery is we don't have long to wait, the movie premieres in March.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict this will make a bunch of cash, maybe not Star Wars cash but we're at least talking Star Trek cash. I know not everyone holds Cloverfield in high regard but I feel like there's enough of a fan base, plus the post Star Wars buzz Abrams has going will equal the first big hit of 2016.

Yes, I realize I just implied that Deadpool was going to flop. More on that next week.

New Star Wars trailer is no Turkey

Hey kids, remember Star Wars? It's back, in pog trailer form. Earlier today the teaser trailer for Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens was released on line. I've only watched it 30-40 times so far. When Lucas sold the rights to Star Wars to Disney and they announced a slew of new movies I really didn't want to get sucked into the rabbit hole, but here I am. Bounce Bounce.

I just love everything about this teaser. The suspenseful nature of it, the X-Wings, Stormtroopers without their helmets, the mother loving Millennium Falcon doing a barrel roll being chased by honest to god Tie Fighters. Don't even get me started on the lightsaber with a hilt... It's going to be a very long 12 months.

JJ Abrams mystery project?

Apparently JJ Abrams newest mystery project is a youtube clip titled Stranger about a guy that washes up on a beach only to meat a super freaky guy holding a torch with his mouth sewn shut. I liked it but it could have used more lens flare.

Game of Links

Leaked Star Wars Game Is ‘Predecessor’ To Battlefront III, Source Says. Word on the street is that there are two new big Star Wars games right around the corner. Both first person shooters one a low rent Battlefield III clone that would be a cheapo downloaded game (maybe free to play?) the other an actual honest to goodness Battlefront III. There was some video that came with these screenshots but it was pulled by Lucasarts almost immediately. I guess the whole Disney situation put a big hold on all the games they were working on. I bet they'll end up as next gen releases when all is said and done. Also I will play the beejeezus out of them.

10 Books to Read While Waiting for new Game of Thrones. Woohoo stuff to read when I'm done with Lord of the Rings! In related news I'm reading the Lord of the Rings books right now. For whatever reason I've never read them, I know nerd fail. So far I've read the Hobbit and I'm about halfway through Fellowship. Turns out they're WAY different than the movies. Who knew?

16 Obscenely Over the Top Home Theaters. I've been looking at rearranging the furniture in my basement. Maybe moving where the TV is and getting rid of a couple chairs. I think I'll put in a batmobile and some chandeliers instead.

Minka Kelly Will Co-Star In J.J. Abrams’s New Show About Robot Cops Or Something. Six seasons and a movie!

That Guy to Direct That Movie

According to Everyone on the Internet it's officially official. JJ Abrams has been hired to direct Star Wars VII: The Wrath of the Endless Lens Flare joke. I guess this is news I'm supposed to care about but I don't. Abrams is a perfectly serviceable director. He's no SeƱor Spielbergo but it's not a complete hack either. Still it's hard for me to work up any excitement for new Star Wars movies, even with Disney at the helm. I mean, have you seen Cars 2? ugh.

Wake me when they cast Grand Admiral Thrawn. That's when I'll start getting excited.

Revolution looks good, has a silly name

This is the time of year where the major TV networks announce their schedule for next fall and start showing some previews for new shows. The one that really caught my eye last week was Revolution, a new show by JJ Abrams and John Favreau. Not because it's next in a long line of shows trying to be the next lost, but because it looks like a total rip off of Jeremiah, the Showtime series staring Luke Perry from like 10 years ago. Man I loved that show.

It’ll be interesting to see if this show even has a chance of success. NBC doesn’t have a very good track record with these kinds of serial dramas. I’m not asking for 6 seasons and a movie, just knowing that in 6 months it wont get shunted to Friday nights after Whitney would be a good start.

New Alcatraz Trailer

If you're a TV junkie like me this has been a pretty fun week. All the major networks are announcing schedules, so we're finally finding out what pilots are getting picked up (booo no locke and key!) and which ones are (woohoo Grimm).

In some of the least/most interesting news, JJ Abrams new show Alcatraz is slated for a midseason debut on Fox. I know it's a bit stereotypical for a nerd to gush over the new JJ Abrams project before anyone has even seen it, but even without the 'Brams name attached, this looks cool.

New Super 8 trailer

Ok so it's no 5 fast 5 furious, but this new trailer for Super 8 looks pretty awesome. The first teaser made me believe this was going to be another shaky cam kinda joint like Cloverfield. While I liked Cloverfield I'm kinda glad this looks more like a regular film. Also it has a whole Goonies/Stand by Me/Monster Squad thing going for it. I half expected Corey Feldman to pop up at the end, I was only half disappointed when he didn't.
