Bill Belichick hates the NFL’s tablets so much he ranted about them for over 5 minutes. It's unfortunate for Microsoft that their name has been featured prominently in most of the articles and tweets I've seen about this. If these were iPads the great Grumblelord Belicheck would still hate them. I mean look at this guy, you know he still has a Thomas map in his car because Siri gave him the wrong directions once. I guess that's the chance you take when you make a big splashy product placement deal, it's great when everything is working but the second something goes wrong every sees it.
5 Bizarre Realities Of Video Game Universes We Just Accept. A couple days ago I mentioned that Rockstar was teasing a Red Dead Redemption sequel. Well they made it official with a release date of (to lazy to look it up) sometime next year. They confirmed it will be available on the PS4 and the Xbox One and.... yeah, there's no PC port. Sons of bitches.
There's a Bizarre Reality I can't accept.
The Weirdest, Most Disturbing 'Sexy' Costumes of 2016. I don't know. Call me old fashioned but the Sexy Hamilton costume is hot. Maybe it's just that I appreciate the theater (not true) more than the fine folks at Gizmodo.
Marvel Has Been Ignoring Fans Telling Them to Stop Being So Progressive Since Forever. Every once in a while Marvel does something that people read as being very political and a certain segment of readers get all bent out of shape. Sometimes it's something big and flashy like a gay wedding or a new POC Spider-Man, sometimes it's something I think is fairly innocuous like having a superhero battle a hate group (they look like trump supporters!). I always think its funny when I read these protests, like have these people never read an X-Men comic? Marvel has been political pretty much from the get go. The earliest Fantastic Four comics were blatantly anti-nuclear power and often very anti-war, two big political issues in the 60s.
I could understand how someone that's really conservative could bristle at the idea that most comic book creators lean heavily towards the left but I refuse to believe their supposed shock. You're surprised that people who gravitate towards the arts are liberal? Have you ever met any human beings?
Anyway, somehow last week I got slightly drug into this "SJW are ruining comics" debate by responding to a tweet from a relatively famous comic book artists. He claimed that Danny Rand (Iron Fist in the upcoming Netflix series) had to be white because being white was central to his character. I quickly (and I thought very politely) mentioned that I believe you could tell a similar Iron Fist story with a non white Danny Rand. I'll admit it wouldn't be the same but I think it wouldn't stray too far from the heart of the character AND it could still be compelling TV. Turns out there are a lot of comic book readers that are NOT ok with changing the race of a character for the big screen. From now on I'm ending all my hot twitter takes with "don't @ me".
Inside the Redman MTV Cribs Episode. Stop what you are doing and read this wonderfully written article on one of the seminal moments of MTV. I haven't been this as excited to link to something since the oral history of Baywatch a couple years ago. They even interview Sugar Bear. SUGAR BEAR!
Chris Christie Spent $82,594 Of Taxpayer Money At An NFL Stadium. HOLY SHITSNACKS that's a lot of cotton candy. It's roughly $5,000 a game. What are you buying that's costing that kind of money? Is the Old Milwaukee being personally delivered by the Swedish Bikini team? Man, American politics are crazy crooked. Maybe not Italian level crooked but still super crooked.
Black Widow Absent From A Toy Based On One Of Her Coolest AoU Moments. Of course she is. I've mentioned this before but holy crap is it hard to find female representation in kids toys. I've actually been sort of happy with the Skylanders videogame/toys in this aspect. There are quite a few cool female Skylanders and miracle of all miracles, my son doesn't have a problem playing them at all. Now if they could just lower the price of Swap Force guys a bit...
The top ten arcade racing games of the 1980s. This article is hella old but I don't care. Hard Driving was the bomb yo. I swear I learned how to drive a stick on that thing. I mean I didn't of course. All I learned about was how to dump the clutch in a tremendously dangerous fashion but who cares? Did you see those 3-D graphics?

I just happened to be in the car listening to sports talk when Roger Goodell had his rumbling, stumbling, bumbling of a press conference to address the NFLs poor handling of the Ray Rice situation. It was as bad as John Oliver makes it out to be. Not only was the NFL using the Washington DC time honored tradition of releasing bad news on a Friday afternoon where no one will here it but he answered no questions and gave no real information on policy changes other than saying "we're going to change our policy".
It's amazing to me that a Billion dollar company like the NFL, a company that has had to deal with real life murderers, doesn't have a set policy on how to handle players/coaches/officials that are charged and or convicted of violent crimes. It's been said plenty but I don't think it can be repeated enough, getting caught smoking weed is an automatic 4 game suspension in the NFL. Beating another human being unconscious in an elevator? We'll think of something when we get there.
If you told me yesterday that my new favorite song would be a rap about a new Direct TV channel sung by Peyton and Eli Manning I would have told you to gtfo.. but here we are.
Fantasy, Fantasy, Football Fantasy.. Football Fantasy
Why Is The 'Retired' F-117 Nighthawk Still Flying? As a boy that grew up obsessed with military weapons and vehicles, the F-117 has a special spot in my memory-heart. It was the first really cool future weapon that I can remember. It didn't hurt that for the first few years of it's known existence it was still shrouded in mystery. No one really knew that much about the plane and what it was capable of they just new it was invisible and looked like it belonged to the rebel alliance. I love the idea that there's still a group of them flying around when there shouldn't be. Let's call them Rogue Squadron just for fun.
How a Boy, His Horse and a Swamp Basically Screwed up a Generation. Somehow The Neverending Story has come up a bunch in conversation and on-line lately. Outside of Bambi's mom I can't think a kids movie with a worse first 15 minutes. The horse literally died because it lost all hope. That ish is messed up.
It’s Not In the Game: Eight Features the NFL Made EA Sports Remove from “Madden”. I'll be honest I haven't played a Madden game since the PS2 when EA screwed the NFL2K series out of the NFL license (2005 maybe?). I had no idea they took away the ambulance. The ambulance was the BEST! Oh man I remember hours spent playing this on the snes just dying for the ambulance to show up. The only thing better was a in season snow game.
Essentially the 90s were boring and we were easily entertained.
31 Of The Most Exotic Pools On Earth. Some day I want to be rich enough to have a pool right next to or in another body of water. It's the most ridiculous expense I can think of. "Yeah that water 2 feet over there is ok, but this water right here has jets and an ipod hook up"
NFL Cheerleading Is A Scam: A Former Ravens Cheerleader Tells All. Last week I ran a story about a Raiderette suing the Oakland Raiders over back pay and abusive working conditions. Here's some anonymous confirmation from a former Raven's cheerleader that everything you heard was correct... and quite frankly a bit worse.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. It does sound like cheerleaders are really getting the short end of the spirit stick but whose fault is it? If one quits there's a hundred more girls just looking to take their place. Maybe stories like this will put a bit more pressure on football teams to treat their cheer squads a bit better. also, GO HAWKS!
Empire's X-Men: Days of Future Past Covers. Empire Magazine which I know exclusively for being the magazine that always has the first on set pictures of nerdy movies but they get published on line so why would I buy a magazine like some sucker from 1992? has a bunch covers featuring the characters of X-Men: Days of Future Past. I went with Warpath who is one of my favorite X-Men and is sure to get all of 3 minutes of screen time. Hopefully whilst gutting someone with his cool vibranium knives.
A Guide To The Great American Pastime Of Celebrities Dressing As Princess Leia. Call me crazy but I've been so desensitized to Slave Leia that I actually think the long white dress from the movie poster Leia is like a thousand times hotter than Slave Leia. Heck, these days I'll take Hoth Leia over Slave Leia. As long as it's not Cloud City Leia... a man has to have standards.
Tiffany Amber-Theissen turned 40 last week and she still looks pretty fantastic. In related news how is it that Tiffany Amber-Theissen is only 2.5 years older than I am? I remember watching Saved by the Bell Saturday mornings and they all seemed WAY older than I was. Next thing you'll tell me is that Luke Perry is still in his 40s. (checks Wikipedia) damn it.
Disappointing new Lego Simspons. Everyone on the interwebs is crazy over the new Simpsons Lego set, except this one guy and he's got a point. At first glance the Simpsons set looks really impressive but man did Lego miss the mark with the details. Most of the rooms in the house look nothing like the rooms in the TV show. All the mini-figures look suicidal. The set runs about $200, for $200 I expect a lot better than this.
The Most Impressive Costumes from Star Trek: TNG's First 3 Seasons. Wow... that's an impressive shirt Riker. Or is that a kimono? A silk wrap? I don't know, I just know it looks super sharp. This is a definite must read. You'll get a good chuckle and get super nostalgic for the best sci-fi show of all time. Yeah I said it, X-Files. Get over yourself.
Sick Passenger. This review of the newest Schaffer the Darklord album, Sick Passenger, by his step-sister is pretty great. If you have any interest in unique/slightly nerdy raps I'd check it out. I reviewed the Schaffer the Darklord show I went a couple weeks ago on here already but didn't really go much into the actual music. Reviewing music is tough. Whenever I try it's always "buy this CD, it sounds good". Then I delete the review and try and find a link to a better one. So there's something to look forward to in 2014, less music reviews.
Oh yeah, you should totes buy Sick Passenger. Top to bottom It's easily the best album in my mp3 player rotation right now.
The Oakland Raiders Are Being Sued By Their Own Cheerleaders, Because Of Course They Are. I'll be quite honest with you, I didn't even read this article. In the instance where I don't use a picture pulled from the article I'm linking to I usually use Bing to image search for a picture. As far as searching for different sizes and layouts I think their search is superior. Also I end up getting different pictures (obviously) than with google image search which I like. Nothing worse that when a page uses the first picture that pops up on google image.
What I don't like about using Bing is that recently they are throwing out a ton of in page notices to try and get you to make IE your default browser. Knock that garbage off, Microsoft. I'm already one of the 5% that uses your search engine, don't drive me away just because your browser sucks and no one wants to use it.
SLAM Magazine scans from the early/mid 2000s. Some fabulous redditor took a bunch of old issues of Slam Magazine and put them online. I love it because this era is right about where my knowledge of the NBA ends. Once the Sonics left town I stopped watching. Whenever I catch a game for more than a couple minutes I'm always like "where's Desmond Mason?" and "Who does Steve Francis play for now?"
8 Reasons to be Overly Excited for the Lego Movie. Last night was bath night for my son and right as we were getting him ready a commercial for the movie aired and he LOST HIS SHIT. Not literally of course. Potty training is done, no accidents in weeks. He wanted us to rewind the commercial like 4 times. Needless to say it was a very short bath.
The movie looks great, and I'm super pumped to take him to it. My only complaint is that the lego sets associated with the movie don't look that great to me. No where near as good as the Lone Ranger sets from last summer look. I guess we'll just have to stick with Lego Star Wars and Ninjago for now. First world problems...
Barbarella TV series finds a home on Amazon. Nicolas Winding Refn the ultra-hipster director behind Drive and Only God Forgives is bringing Barbarella to TV. Kind of.. Does Amazon Prime count as TV? I'm not even sure anymore, man. If he's looking for some casting advice, I heartily recommend Alice Eve or Diora Baird for the part of Barbarella, because reasons.
Marvel To Publish Star Wars Comics In 2015. This is big news. Bigger News if you were a comic book reader in the '80s. Back then Marvel made boat loads of money by printing books based on Toy and Movie Licences. Star Wars, GI Joe & Transformers were all best sellers. Somewhere in the '90s they let those licences go to Dark Horse, Image and a couple other smaller publishers. Currently the Star Wars books Image publishes are pretty darn good so it will be interesting to see if Marvel really rolls out the red carpet and gives the titles they publish top notch creative teams.
Shia LaBeouf: "Should God Sue Me if I Paint a River?". Wow... just wow. Shia LaBeouf is a special kind of crazy. The kind that comes from being in hollywood for your whole life. He's like Corey Feldman but instead of drugs he's immersed himself in "art".
If you're not familiar with the story, The Beef made a short film that was essentially a adaption of a comic book by Daniel Clowes (Ghost World). Of course he did it without telling Clowes and without telling anyone else it was an adaption of a previous work. When he was first caught he apologized. Kind of. Every apology he tweeted was taken from a google search for apologies. Now he's spewing crazy on what is art and what is intellectual property. Seriously, the kid is cray cray.
I Was An NFL Player Until I Was Fired By Two Cowards And A Bigot. If you didn't hear about this yesterday you're probably living under a rock. Or somewhere that doesn't get sports talk radio. Chris Kluwe the greatest punter in Vikings history was let go at the beginning of the season. He makes a pretty good case that it wasn't due to his performance but because he's outspoken on the issue of gay rights. It's an interesting read, especially in a post Ducky Dynasty newscycle.
I had two takeaways on the article. First off if Adrian Peterson had said the same things Kluwe did there's no way he would have been let go. Kluwe's words and actions aren't that controversial. I just believe they're too controversial in relation to his ability and that's the reason he hasn't found another job in the league. Why would a team want to deal with even a small distraction just to sign the 19th best punter in the league?
Second is that if Kluwe can be taken at his word, the special teams coach for the Vikings is a horrible person. If you ever want to know why most gay athletes don't come out until their careers are over you have to look no further than the guy the Vikings are seriously considering as a head coach.
Memories Of Doom, By John Romero & John Carmack. Last week Doom turned 20 years old. I was going to do a thing about it but I never got around to it. I still believe that Quake was more influential to the computer game biz than Doom but It's close. If you've ever played a game on a lan you can thank John Carmack and John Romero.
In a related story I tried to teach my kid a lesson this year by taking him toy shopping for the toy drive our local fire station puts on every year. He picked out a star wars toy all on his own and when we went to the fire station he handed it to one of the firefighters and told him thank you. Being a parent is hard work and you lose a lot more than you win but last night I was incredibly proud. The candy cane they gave us tasted like victory (and grape.. yuck).
The 10 Worst Gifts for Comic Book Readers. I like ComicsAlliance and in general I love Chris Sims's articles but this list is complete horseshit. I'd LOVE a stack of random weird ass comics. Or those Batman Crocs? TOTAL SWAG. A Thor movie staring Kevin Nash? I WISH I HAD DOUBLE CAPS LOCKS TO EXPRESS PROPERLY HOW MUCH I LOVE THAT!
15 powerful insights from Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five. I read this for the first time about a year ago. It's one of those books that was kind of underwhelming to me but the more I talked about it with my friends and wife the more I liked it. Maybe I'll have to check it out again.
I think I've featured the Dude Perfect guys before doing INSANE frisbee catches or something. Here they are with some punter tricks. Just in time for the NFL off season!
Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.
Did you see the Seahawks crush the 49ers last night? It's hard to believe this was the same team that got beat by Arizona on opening day. I know we're probably not going to win the NFC west but we've already clinched a wildcard spot and they way that we're playing I don't think a couple wins in the playoffs are out of the question.
The Seahawks have only been to the Superbowl once in their history and they're one of like 14 teams to never have won it. Is it really too much to ask that they bring home the first championship trophy to Seattle in over 30 years?
Did you see the Seahawks smash the Packers on Monday Night Football? I've been told there was a controversial call near the end of the game.
Monday seems to have been the tipping point as far as everyone venting their anger over the current replacement referee situation in the NFL. So far no one has really hit the league with as much haughty sarcasm as the Lingerie Football League has. That's right, the Lingerie Football League. Take it away buzzfeed blogging monkey:
After the disaster that was last night's Monday Night Football game, the Lingerie Football League decided it could no longer stay quiet on the subject of replacement refs. They released a statement on Facebook that confirmed a story from earlier this year that revealed some of the NFL's replacement officials may have been fired by the underwear-based league. This is their statement, creative syntax and all, presented by photos of the LFL.
Chicks Tebow Hasn't Banged. Just in time for Football season! True story, last year I won my fantasy football league with Tebow starting the entire second half of the season. I'm not saying it was divine intervention but "science" sure didn't help me win any games.
Why Websites Need to Stop Being so Douchey. This times a thousand billion. I swear if I have to look at one more pointless slide show I'm going to puke. I'm looking your way Bleacher Report...
you too Buddy TV.
12 Hilarious Reviews for a Pen Just for Women. Here's my favorite: "My only disappointment in this pen is that it only comes in Precious Pink, Blacklisted and Blue Stocking. I am looking for a pen that is available in the full 50 shades of grey"
EA President: Next-gen is coming in 'about a year's time'. So Christmas of 2013? EA says they're already in development for a couple next-gen games. Dollars to doughnuts it's Madden and a new Battlefield game. I'm eager to see the price point on the next consoles. If it really is $500+ I'd look into going back to PC gaming. With the lifespan of consoles increasing being an early adopter just doesn't seem to payoff.
I'm not sure what happened, but sometime after he left Saturday Night Live and made that awful Red Sox movie with Drew Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon actually became funny. For proof I'll give you last weekends Saturday night Live. While this Tebow sketch doesn't actually have him in it, SNL was pretty solid all the way around.
I don't know how it came to this, but if given the option between watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon or Conan, I'll probably watch Fallon. Seriously, how did that happen?
The 5 Stages of Star Wars grief. Wow, way to be topical Slate. What's next, an article on the rick-roll? I hear this Leroy Jenkins guy has the internet buzzing.
FCC Commissioner is crooked. One of 4 FCC Commissioners to vote in favor of the KabletownComcast/NBC merger just announced she would be leaving to work for Comcast. USA USA USA!
The Bizarre Cult of Pro-Owner Fanboys. Ever since Seattle lost the Sonics I've felt that all team owners, no matter the sport, can choke. This editorial hasn't changed my stance.
Racists debate the merits of Thor. It's good to know that Thor is prompting such heady debate as "Branagh is a metrosexual pussyboy" or "Jack Kirby was Jewish, as is Natalie Portman". I'm sure Stan Lee is very proud.
Much like her butt, the Ines Sainz story is one that just won't quit. If you didn't check out the link I posted earlier in the week and you're been living in a sports blog free cave, here's the story thus far. Ines Sainz beloved sports reporter for Mexican television made nationwide headlines when she accused the Jets of some unprofessional behavior in the locker room after practice last week. Here's what she said.
"I have similar reactions in a different kind of sports. But, never, the vocabulary never so rude,"
She also said that during practice she felt like players were throwing footballs in her direction to get her attention.
Is it really a big story? Probably not, I mean it doesn't sound like guys were waving their dongs at her or anything. She seemed to handle the situation very professionally, and honestly if this didn't happen in New York with the Rex Ryan and the Jets it probably wouldn't have become a national story.
"You know man, I think you put women reporters in the locker room in positions to see guys walking around naked, and you sit in the locker room with 53 guys, and all of the sudden you see a nice woman in the locker room, I think men are gonna tend to turn and look and want to say something to that woman. For the woman, I think they make it so much that you can't interact and you can't be involved with athletes, you can't talk to these guys, you can't interact with these guys.
Whoa Clinton, be careful what you say here.
"And I mean, you put a woman and you give her a choice of 53 athletes, somebody got to be appealing to her. You know, somebody got to spark her interest, or she's gonna want somebody. I don't know what kind of woman won't, if you get to go and look at 53 men's packages. And you're just sitting here, saying 'Oh, none of this is attractive to me.' I know you're doing a job, but at the same time, the same way I'm gonna cut my eye if I see somebody worth talking to, I'm sure they do the same thing."
I take it back apparently players are waving their dongs at the female reporters. But it's ok, the law of averages say they'll eventually see a dong they like. Seriously, it even happens in soccer. You tell me that Landon isn't about to whip it out.
Anyway something tells me that Clinton Portis is going to have to do some grade A back-tracking here. I'm pretty sure the NFL isn't going to like the idea that it's players think all female reporters just need some man meat.
"I was wrong to make the comments I did, and I apologize," Portis said in a statement released by the team. "I respect the job that all reporters do. It is a tough job and we all have to work and act in a professional manner. I understand and support the team on these issues"
Well that doesn't sound at all like it was written by the Washington Redskins PR department. These kinds of straight from the heart apologies can really change your mind about someone.
And I guess it's settled, now we should be able to put all this behind... hold on. Arizona Cardinal Darnell Docket would like to say something.
"All I can do is LOL at the jets Female Reporter! She walks into a locker room full of men and think some one not gonna say nothing LMFAO," he said. "I don't know what was said to her or whatever but u just have to know u going into a TEAM LOCKEROOM, and if its that serious WOMEN STAY OUT!"
hmmm, that didn't seem to go so well. Maybe what we need is a serious sit down interview with Ines Sainz. I mean so far all she is is a pretty blonde in tight jeans. Once the American public is really able to put a face and personality with those tight jeans we can all see she is just a human being trying to do her job.
Anyone other than Fox News up to the challenge? No? Ok, take it away creepy guy who can't stop staring at boobies.
My name is Kevin and I blog, mostly about nerdy stuff. I'm old enough to know that Gobots came before Transformers and geeky enough to care.
