Twenty-Four Years Ago Today: The Start Of The Image Comics Revolution. Technically it was twenty-four years ago yesterday but close enough.

Whenever I'm having a conversation with myself in the shower about Image comics, I like to use the analogy that Image is to comics what the Tucker was to the automobile industry. If Tucker had been successful. They didn't invent the idea of independent publishing and creator owned properties in comic books but they were the first to really succeed at it on a broad scale and challenge the status quo established by DC and Marvel.

An Incredibly Delicious And Super Scientific Ranking Of Girl Scout Cookies. With all due respect to Ashley Burns this list is complete horseshit. Here's how you rank Girl Scout Cookies:
1. Tagalongs

18 Extremely Awkward Christian Album Covers. Dude, I would buy an album Karatist Preacher any day of the week. Except maybe Sunday. I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to practice Karatist on Sundays. It's in Leviticus.

Reboots, remakes, and sequels need not apply—Ars’ most anticipated games of 2016. First off, hilarious how you included Doom in this list, Ars Technica. Second off, how is it that I've slept on Overwatch for this long? That game looks super dope. Like a combo between Team Fortress and Unreal Tournament. I'm most definitely checking that out when it ships.

Bikini Coffee Shacks Full Of Hookers. WHAT? I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya. I can't believe that these baristas would offer sexual favors in exchange for tips. True story time: I drive by one of these sexy espresso stands every day on my way to work. They have a sign out that has whatever the day's theme is like bondage or school girl. The other day it said wet t-shirt and I saw one of the customers spraying a girl in a white t-shirt with a water bottle after he got his coffee.

It was the weirdest thing ever. Not sexy at all. Who decides on their way to work they really need a grande white chocolate mocha and to spray down some titties? Maybe I'm just a prude. I've been to Hooters twice and both times I've felt hella uncomfortable. When I ogle women I don't want them to know I'm ogling them.

... wait a minute that sounds a thousand times worse.

5 More pictures from the Set of Star Wars Episode VII. Not gonna lie to you. My pants got just a little bit tighter after looking at these pictures of various spacecraft from the set of Episode VII. I know I'm just setting myself up for disappointment but I am both pumped and jacked to take my son to see a new Star Wars movie in the theater. Even if it's complete crap I know he's really going to love it. You have no idea how many times he's made me watch Episode I.

Mikal kHill - The Snuggle is REAL. Mikal kHill's new album The Snuggle is REAL was released yesterday. I've only gotten the chance to listen to it a couple times in the car but so far what I've heard is FANTASTIC. If you were big into underground hip hop from the late 90s this is the nerdcore album for you.

Conservative Christian Rewrites Harry Potter So Her Kids Won’t Turn Into Witches. Holy shit... You really have to read this. Hogwarts is a school for prayer and miracles, Obama is Voldemort, Slythrins are all Catholics, only silly Hufflepuffs believe women should have careers, It's all quite amazing. If someone was trying to write a parody of what they think a tea party approved conservative Christian Harry Potter would be like, it would be this book.

Far be it for me to tell you how to raise your children but if you really think the Harry Potter books are going to push your children into witchcraft your kids are in for a rough time. Or maybe you live in the south. In that case sharpen those pitchforks and pass the ammo.

Miss America Was Kicked Out of Her Sorority for Abusive Hazing. Sweet Christmas, the rumored hazing Miss New York has been accused of is horrible and totally hot. At least it is until you realize it's kind of rape. There's your lead. Miss America is probably a rapist. USA USA USA!

Also this might be a good time to point out John Oliver's amazing takedown of the Miss America Pageant. If you missed it earlier this week you should check it out. Big ups to HBO for putting the best parts of Last Week Tonight on Youtube for free.

Dawn of the Links

The Death of the Television Rerun. I was thinking about this the other day when I noticed one of the local non-affiliate networks in town was running news at 9pm. It used to be depending on where you lived you had about 5 or 6 local TV stations and one or two of those channels were always playing reruns. Like all day long. Growing up there were a lot of really old shows I was exposed to simple because they were still on. Gilligan's Island, Star Trek the original series, The Bob Newhart show. Hell, during the summers I remember watching Batman reruns every day at 11am. Even shows that were just slightly before my time like the Dukes of Hazard or the A-Team were every day almost 10 years after they had been canceled.

These days with Netflix, Amazon Prime and roughly 10,000 cable channels, content has never been more readily available but how many younger people are going to sit down and really watch Cosby Show or Cheers reruns? It's too bad because I believe there's a lot to learn about quality story telling from some of those older shows. Also who's going to get all the Night Court references I use? Roz? Bull? Mac? No one, that's who.

The Massive Soviet Sub That Inspired 'Hunt For Red October'. It's basically two submarines welded side by side. The closest US sub in size weighs almost 1/3 less than this behemoth. It has a swimming pool in it for goodness sake. A swimming pool!

Why Wu-Tang Will Release Just One Copy Of Its Secret Album. I'll tell you why, because everyone involved with the Wu-Tang Clan is pretty much bonkos. Also this idea is awesome.

Meet G. Willow Wilson, the Muslim Woman Revolutionizing Superhero Comics. Hey! I in fact did meet G Willow Wilson at Emerald City Comic Con this last weekend (maybe you've heard me talk about it?). Generally speaking when a comic book gets this much mainstream attention I'm a bit wary of it, especially when it's one that sort of checks all the boxes for what some would consider a publicity stunt. Ms Marvel is not a publicity stunt. It's a really good comic book and I would recommend anyone pick up a copy. I think you can get it digitally for like 99 cents on comixology. The conversation I had with Ms. Wilson was pretty short but she was so nice she left a lasting impression. Hopefully the book is a big success and she stays in the industry a nice long time.

A Tribute to Zack Snyder's 'Dawn of the Dead,' Which Turns 10 This Last Week. The 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead is still my favorite zombie movie. It really touches on all the best points of zombie fiction. Plus the zombie baby... oh man. Zombie baby is a thousand times scarier than any of those fast twitchy zombies in World War Z.

Take it down a notch, will you buddy?

I'm not sure what happened, but sometime after he left Saturday Night Live and made that awful Red Sox movie with Drew Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon actually became funny. For proof I'll give you last weekends Saturday night Live. While this Tebow sketch doesn't actually have him in it, SNL was pretty solid all the way around.

I don't know how it came to this, but if given the option between watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon or Conan, I'll probably watch Fallon. Seriously, how did that happen?

Who said it? Captain America or God?

If I read my teaparty leaflet correctly over 115% of all Americans identify themselves as Christians. As such you'd think we'd be able to tell the difference between a Bible verse and a quote from Captain America. We'll you'd be wrong.

A survey conducted on behalf of the American Bible Society found that 63 percent incorrectly believed that a verse found in 2 Corinthians was actually a quote from either Martin Luther King Jr., former President George W. Bush, or the patriotic superhero, Captain America.

The verse in question was 2 Corinthians 4:8, which in the Contemporary English Version reads, "We often suffer, but we are never crushed. Even when we don't know what to do, we never give up."

~ChristianPost.com

To be fair to America, 2 Corinthians 4:8 isn't John 3:16 or anything. I can see attributing that quote to someone like MLK jr or Cap. It's got a patriotic/civil rights tone to it. I'd be more worried if we start attributing Captain America quotes to the Bible. Especially something from the Cap Wolf storyline.

Although If I had to put a Captain America quote in the bible (wow, this post went off the rails fast) I think it would be this panel from The Infinity Gauntlet #4.
