This comerical for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is perfect

I did not enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 as much as I did the first one, however this commercial for GOTG2 is pretty much the most perfect thing ever. I want to live in this commercial or at the very least get a cool polo/sweater combo like this smooth dude here. If you look closely he has two collars popped. TWO!

Holy cow does this guy know how to sell his Vitara or what. I mean if I didn't need 4 doors for the kids I'd throw all the money I have at this thing. $487, that's enough to get a '96 Vitara, right? He does say it needs some paint, that's at least $300 off Blue Book.

Sting Sprite Commercial

This commercial where 1999 WCW Champion Sting destroys some kid right after he drinks a Sprite is incredibly effective. It makes me want to both drink a sprite and plug the N64 back in so I can play a few rounds of WCW/NWO Revenge.

KFC x WWE: Sando Slam

This KFC commercial debuted during Summerslam last weekend and I swear I can't even. I'm not sure if whoever wrote this is a genius or an insane madman. The Miz doing the running man in a chicken costume CGI'd onto a giant chicken sandwich is like the 6th craziest thing about it. Good to see Ziggler get a clean victory though.

Breaking: All the Marvel Now (2106) leaks and no more X-men? A few years ago Marvel discovered they could sell more comics by constantly shuffling their line-up and rebooting everything once every two years. Personally I don't see it as a very sound long term strategy but I understand why they do it. Are you more likely to pick up issue #248 of Iron Man off the shelf or #1 of The Invincible Iron Man, or International Iron Man or whatever it is they're calling the main Iron Man book these days.

I think what's really taken people off guard here is that Marvel had its solicitations for October leaked and there's zero X-Men titles on it. Mutants haven't gone away completely (Deadpool still gets two books) but there's nothing here with X-Men on the cover. Considering how popular the X-Men were when I grew up that seems amazing. I don't get what Disney and Marvel are really trying to accomplish here? Do they think Fox is quaking in their boots because Marvel won't publish an X-Men book? Fox barely even knows comics exist. All the execs at Fox probably think that they publish the X-Men book because they own the movie rights. This is the weakest strong arm technique I've ever seen.

A Cosplayer Is Running For Political Office. This is kind of interesting I guess. Cara Nicole Trujillo, a cosplayer from Arizona, is officially running for the Arizona Legislature as a Green Party candidate. Personally I have zero problem voting for a cosplayer but even though she's running as a Green Party candidate she says she's "pro limited government". I think I'm old enough that I understand what that means. Tax cuts for the rich, like Tony Stark.

A Gallery of Retro Video Game Ads. Well there's an ad you couldn't get away with these days. Some of the ads in this gallery are really something. I guess back in the 90s and early 2000's, it was too much to expect for video game companies to hire actual qualified advertising agencies to give them a hand.

Product Placement in Transfers 4 Was Really Smooth

I never did see Transformers 4, I mean what's the point. The first film is good enough, I mean it's not a great movie but it's kind of enjoyable. Shia LaBeouf gets crapped on a ton but he acted his ass off in that hunk of garbage. The robots smash into each other and fight a bunch, I don't know. The Transformers cartoon is pretty terrible, what were people expecting?

On the other hand Transformers 2 and 3 are really just unenjoyable pieces of garbage. I forgot they even made a 4th one until I saw this edit on reddit. I'm guessing it made money, I think they're making a 5th one. Who cares, I'm here for the awkward product placement.

I'm actually a big fan of goofy product placement, at least I'm a big fan of it in terrible movies or goofy TV shows. Remember a couple years ago when every NBC show took place in a subway? That was fantastic. I just love the idea that the producers have such little faith in their movie being a hit they have to take an extra million from Goodyear to highlight some tires.

The Absurd History of Nike Air Technology. Oh man, I remember just how bad I wanted a pair of Nike Air when I was a kid. My parents had enough money to send me to private school but not enough to buy me fancy shoes. Like I was always wearing weird European shoes like Lotto or Diadora that you could find in the bargain bin at Big 5. I'm sure that if I went to school in Turino I would have been super cool.

I think I got my first pair of Nike Air when I was like 17 or 18 and I remember how horrified I was when I realized it was just a fancy insole you could pull out of the shoe (they weren't the visible kind). What a scam.

‘Empire Records’ 20 Years Later: A ’90s Movie Unstuck In Time. Yikes... here's another one of those things that makes me feel hella old. Much like the Goonies or Clueless the cult of Empire Records has grown substantially over the last few years. Just more proof that the generation of kids stuck between X and Millennial should be called the Nostalgic Generation. We get nostalgic over anything. The stupider the better. Empire Records is a terrible movie that no one saw in the theater but I'll be damned if every Rex Manning day there aren't a dozen posts in my facebook feed about it. And I'll be double damned if I don't hit like on every one of them.

LEGO Dimensions: The Kotaku Review. I'm not going to lie, I'm having a really hard time not running to the store and buying this right now. There's pretty much only two things keeping me from doing that. First, it's my son's birthday in about a month so if I'm going to drop $100 on a new game I should probably wait. Second, I kind of want it on the WiiU, a system I don't really have but have thought about trying to get the family for Christmas.

It's funny I was looking at some older posts a few days ago and I noticed that I blasted the WiiU a couple different times and now it's totally the system that I want. I'm definitely in a mode where I'd rather play Splatoon or Super Mario Maker than a new Halo or Uncharted game. Weird, huh?

RIP Vern Fonk

Rob Thielke, the president and recognizable face of Vern Fonk Insurance, passed away Sunday after a long battle with cancer, the company confirmed.

He was 50 years old.

Thielke joined Vern Fonk Insurance, a company specializing in high-risk auto insurance started in Seattle, in 1989.
Thielke rose to President of the company in 2013, but is best known for creating the company’s TV commercials, in which he often starred. His off-the-wall ideas and interesting parodies help make the TV spots some of the most recognizable in the area. via Q13fox.com

Man, that's a bummer. I LOVED me some Vern Fonk commercials. As far as the landscape in the pop culture part of my brain goes Vern Fonk commercials are right up there with Comic Books, Simpsons reruns and the entire roster of NBA Live 95. Rob Thielke will be missed.

McDonalds has been making a lot of hay lately with it's rebooting of the Hamburglar. It's weird and stupid and feels kind of like Poochie but it's also weird and stupid in a great way. TBS Very Fast Funny

TBS speeds up Seinfeld reruns by 7.5% so they can fit in extra commercials. I'm not going to sit here and claim that I knew they were doing this but I remember thinking a couple weeks ago that one of the episodes I was watching was "off". I thought that maybe they had cut a scene completely but maybe subconsciously I did notice the timing. Doesn't matter, what matters is that TBS is a bunch of jerks. I'll bet they never do this with Big Bang Theory or Family Guy reruns. Anti-Dentite bastards.

Starblazers has been uploaded to youtube. I believe it was just a few months ago that I had this near the top of my "things I want on netflix list", youtube is the next best thing. Every episode is available for free including the tie in movies. Not bad at all.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Marks The End Of The ‘First Class’ Trilogy And Wipes Away The Other ‘X-Men’ Movies. Jeez, YEARS ago I blogged about when Fox was going to reboot the X-Men franchise. It looks like that's finally happening? I liked First Class and Days of Future Past but they've kind of made a giant mess of the X-Men franchise going forward. You have two versions of the same characters running around and while that works in the context of a movie about time travel it doesn't work for a tentpole franchise. At a certain point Fox will need to cut the cord and recast Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, etc. and start telling contemporary X-Men stories again Sounds like that might just happen after Apocalypse.

Go Nuts! Ryan North & Erica Henderson Launch ‘Squirrel Girl’ Series For Marvel. Dammit, I'm trying to buy less comic books not more. Squirrel Girl is pretty rad. What started with a joke (her beating Dr. Doom with an army of squirrels) developed into the ultra-silly idea that Squirrel Girl can beat any character in the Marvel Universe. It's a nice way of poking fun at the nerds that like to debate Batman vs Captain America or Thor vs the Hulk. The answer has always been whoever the writer needs to win. It just so happens that's ALWAYS the girl with squirrel powers.

Supergirl TV show to CBS? Good news, I guess. In theory I'm a big fan of Supergirl but when I think about it I may have maybe 10 Supergirl comics. Another half dozen Young Justice books that she may or may not have appeared in? Supergirl is like the original Buffy right? I have to like it.

The real interesting part of this is that CBS bought the show. America's most watched network. Home to NCIS, NCIS: LA and I'm sure some other NCIS show I can't name off the top of my head. ABC is owned by Disney so they have to care about Marvel and Agents of SHIELD (similar to DC and the CW) but CBS doesn't owe DC comics diddly. They want this show so bad they bought it without a pilot. I crack on CBS a lot due to their reputation for bland procedurals but honestly a comic book TV show that's on par quality wise with Person of Interest or Thew Good Wife would be amazing! I genuinely hope it works out for them.

12 surprising foods with more sugar that a Krispy Kreme doughnut. I wasn't that surprised. Anytime you see Fat Free on a food's packaging that just means it's got hella sugar dumped in it. I'm trying to feed my kids slightly better than the garbage that I eat and I notice this all the time. Yogurt is the worst, especially the stuff marketed to kids. If you don't watch what you buy you could easily end up with something that has just as much sugar as a can of coke.

Report: Disney Is Releasing The Original ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy Cuts On Blu-Ray. In the LEAST surprising news ever, Disney and Lucas found a way to squeeze even more money from the stone that is their fanbase. It's nice to know that Disney is really keeping with the traditions Lucas has founded. I mentioned this on reddit the other day but do you realize how ridiculous it was that in 2000 the Phantom Menace was released on VHS well before it was released on DVD. Sure, the DVD format wasn't as ubiquitous back then as it is now but there was no reason to wait soo long on a DVD release other than fleecing stupid nerds who would buy the movie in both formats (like me).

Rumor has it that this is just a big old Rumor because Disney would need to strike an agreement with Fox to release the original movies but there's no way this doesn't happen. I think it's safe to say you can pencil it in for a release date the Christmas before Episode VII hits theaters.
