Supergirl the TV Show the Review

Hopefully you were able to catch the premier of Supergirl last night because I didn't. Stupid Monday nights. There's too many shows on Monday nights. The wife wants to watch Dancing with the Stars (which honestly I don't mind) AND the voice (which honestly I can't stand), so there's no room for Supergirl. I guess I can watch it on line, but I like watching shows on TV vs the computer. There's a CBS app for the Roku but I think you have to be a subscriber. I could watch it on Amazon but that means paying like 2.99 per episode.

First world problems, am I right?

Supergirl Seems Nice

I don't know where this picture from the set of the new Supergirl tv show came from (Instagram I think) but it's pretty much the antithesis of everything DC/Warner Bros is doing with Superman in the movies. I didn't have as many problems with Man of Steel as some other net nerds did but I do feel like it was unnecessarily glum and bleak. What ever happened to Truth, Justice and the American way? Here's hoping Supergirl is a bit more hopeful and optimistic than her older cousin.

Supergirl - First Look

Have we talked about how CBS ordered a Supergirl TV show for fall 2015? Well they did and here's a 6 minute sneak peak. I haven't really watched it yet. My son got a bunch of new Skylanders the other day so I've been playing that a lot. I mean it's Supergirl, I don't really care that much.

Internet reaction has been mixed. Some people have complimented it on it's cheerful tone and other have said it looks just like the Black Widow parody SNL did a couple weeks ago (ouch). I just can't believe how many superhero shows there are on TV now. Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Gotham, Daredevil over on Netflix and the announced Teen Titans show on TNT. We're pretty far removed from the days of made for cable movies of David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury.

Super Links

This is the new Sony Walkman. Hey yo, Sony is reinventing the Walkman brand and holy crap are they doing it with gusto. The price tag is $1,200. That's right $1,200 for an MP3 player. It's a very fancy mp3 player with all sorts of lossless playback capabilities that I'm sure won't mean zilch the first time some moron plugs his pair of Beats into it. Still, nice work getting people to look your way Sony.

30 Things Turning 30 in 2015. No better way to feel old than to think about things you grew up with and how old they've become. The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, Wrestlemania, the NES! Oh the horror. All these old things have been confirmed as old and therefore so have I!

Software Library: MS-DOS Games. Speaking of old things... The Software Library, which is a thing I didn't know existed until today. Posted 2,500 old Dos games that are now playable in your browser. There's a shitload of good games in there. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Lemmings, Sim City, Battle Chess, Stunt Driver, Dragon's Lair, seriously the list is incredible. If you need me I'll be calling in sick so I can play Scorched Earth for a couple days.

Punk Rock Links

Supergirl TV show to CBS? Good news, I guess. In theory I'm a big fan of Supergirl but when I think about it I may have maybe 10 Supergirl comics. Another half dozen Young Justice books that she may or may not have appeared in? Supergirl is like the original Buffy right? I have to like it.

The real interesting part of this is that CBS bought the show. America's most watched network. Home to NCIS, NCIS: LA and I'm sure some other NCIS show I can't name off the top of my head. ABC is owned by Disney so they have to care about Marvel and Agents of SHIELD (similar to DC and the CW) but CBS doesn't owe DC comics diddly. They want this show so bad they bought it without a pilot. I crack on CBS a lot due to their reputation for bland procedurals but honestly a comic book TV show that's on par quality wise with Person of Interest or Thew Good Wife would be amazing! I genuinely hope it works out for them.

U2 Thinks Putting Its Album on Your iPhone Is "Really Punk Rock". This is rich... U2 (or more specifically Bono) believes that being paid 100 million dollars by the one of the largest tech companies in the world to put their newest album on iTunes users devices whether they want it or not is "really punk rock". Other things Bono thinks are really Punk Rock include: Hot Topic, Beats by Dre, Dave Mathews Band, those guitars that are also double guitars...

Lara Croft Contest Date from 1999 Inspires Hilarious Fan Fiction. This is a pretty long read but man is it hilarious. I've always wondered how one of these "win a date with.." kind of contests go. I can't imagine they're anything but hella awkward.

Do You Ever Wonder If Lily From The AT&T Commercials Hates Her Job? I laugh every time Lily tells Gordon Ramsey that his typical behavior is terrifying. There's something about her slight deadpan delivery. Like she's completely had it dealing with idiots all day but she's resigned to the fact that she has student loans to pay off so she needs the paycheck.

12 surprising foods with more sugar that a Krispy Kreme doughnut. I wasn't that surprised. Anytime you see Fat Free on a food's packaging that just means it's got hella sugar dumped in it. I'm trying to feed my kids slightly better than the garbage that I eat and I notice this all the time. Yogurt is the worst, especially the stuff marketed to kids. If you don't watch what you buy you could easily end up with something that has just as much sugar as a can of coke.

Indonesian Supergirl is rip-off-tastic

Anytime I complain about how awful something like the Wonder Woman TV show sounds remind me of this video. It's 6 minutes of shakey butt-cam footage of the Indonesian Supergirl movie. Why is she wearing a Spider-Woman costume? If you have to ask you really can't handle the answer.

Is Lindsay Lohan playing Supergirl?

Short answer, no. Long answer, no sir/ma'am.

So someone somewhere reported that Zack Snyder was looking at casting Lindsay Lohan for some undisclosed major role in the new Superman movie. Since they just cast Lois Lane this has everyone (ie. one blogger) wildly speculating that they're talking about Supergirl. Which is so stupid we're not even going to talk about it any further. What we will talk about is Power Girl.

I mean why not, right? From what I hear the villain in Zack Snyder's Superman is going to be Zod. So I guess after Bryan Singer remade Superman I, Snyder has logically chosen to remake Superman II. In 8 years I'm sure we'll be eagerly awaiting Darren Aronofsky's reboot staring Chris Tucker as Richard Pryor, but I digress.

Not that I think Supergirl is going to be in this new remake but if you are going to make a Superman movie, and you want to shoehorn in a Kryptonian lady, why not use Power Girl? Sure she's less well known as Supergirl, but she's also less iconic. Meaning you have a lot more leeway with the character than you would Supergirl. She could be a villain, a love interest, a pawn in some diabolical scheme by Brainiac, your options are endless. Plus she could be played by Diora Baird, amirite?
