You know how sometimes you'll be dinking around on YouTube and you'll come across a video where the title doesn't actually match what is going on at all? This is not one of those times.
I'm working on my ECCC recap post but it doesn't look like I'll get to it today. Stupid real work. Hopefully I'll have it up tomorrow and by tomorrow I mean Friday at the latest. Spoiler: I had a fun time.
I don't know how much you pay attention to these things but last week The Big Bang Theory was thrown an extra amount of shade by net nerds after this trailer for last weeks episode went on line. I say extra shade because most net nerds HATE Big Bang Theory.
Personally I don't hate the show, in fact I kind of like it (GASP!). I'm sure in someone's eyes that makes me a bad nerd or a fake nerd or some sort of self loathing nerd but whatevers, I don't have time for your labels man. I have a literal closet full of comics and for reals named my son Logan because Wolverine is my second favorite comic book character and my wife wouldn't let me name our kid Peter.

I couldn't tell you why I like the show, maybe it's because I'm from a generation that would literally sit through 20 minutes of the Electric Company just to get a 30 second glimpse of a guy in a super shitty Spider-Man costume. Maybe I'm just sliding into CBS
s target demo, whatever the reason it doesn't really matter. I've never felt the characters (or big ol' Nerds) were made out for ridicule anymore than any other sitcom character ever has been. There's two types of characters in a sitcom, ridiculous over the top caricatures and straight men. Do you think doctors get offended over how they're portrayed in Scrubs? I guess the point I'm making is that I've never been offended by the show.
At least not until last weeks episode.
If you've already watched the trailer above, or if you saw the episode, you'll know that the plot had all the girls going where no girls have gone before: The Comic Book Shop. The way it's edited, the trailer is more offensive than the actual episode was. In the episode the guy that runs the shop was helpful and actually gave great advice to the girls looking for comics (although to stay current he should have recommended Saga over Fables). The really offensive part was how the customers in the shop were portrayed and how later in the episode the comics (superhero books in particular) were dismissed as immature and childish. Seriously F-U CBS. There are girls in the shop I go to all the time and superhero comics are rad. You know what's stupid? 2 Broke Girls, that show sucks and is racist as hell.
How Gamers are ruining Gaming. Oh man, this times a thousand. I love on line gaming, especially first person shooters like Call of Duty and Halo, but The amount of assholes you have to wade through to find a lobby of normal people is maddening. People yelling fag, homo and noob isn't as bad on Battlefield 3 as it is on say Halo, but you still get plenty of people who are just looking to ruin the experience for everyone else. I blame all the rap music kids are listening to these days.
Why Big Bang Theory Reruns Are One of the Most Powerful Forces on Cable. I knew Big Bang Theory was popular but I had no idea it was this popular. I hope non-nerds aren't just watching it to make fun of nerds. If they are I think they'll be very disappointed when they meet some nerds in real life. For instance, I rarely wear my comic book t-shirts to work.
It's a game of Thrones House Party. HBO released a promo video for all the major houses in Game of Thrones. It's cool and all but they reuse a lot of footage from the first season, so it's not that cool.
Mike Stone's Superintendent says Porn Star can't come to Prom. Update to yesterday's story about the kid that asked all those Porn Stars to his prom. One said yes, and then the school said no. I thought we lived in 'murica not communist france!
Tim Gunn doesn't like the cut of your cape. Seriously this is a 7 minute long youtube clip of Tim Gunn critiquing Superhero costumes. It's a thousand times better than the last 3 seasons of Project Runway
Big Bang Theory the porno? Believe it or not the trailer is safe for work but it's definitely not safe for your fragile geek mind.
Robocop as a Jesus metaphor. At least that's what director Paul Verhoeven says. And lets face it, the guy directed Robocop and Starship Troopers, if he says Robocop is Jesus who are we to argue?
More Astonishing comics from Marvel. This is Marvel's plan on making some of their books more accessible to new readers. Just stick Astonishing in the title, yeah that should work.
My name is Kevin and I blog, mostly about nerdy stuff. I'm old enough to know that Gobots came before Transformers and geeky enough to care.
