X-Men: Days of Future Past, the present trailer
Here's the first of what I'm sure will be many trailers for X-Men: Days of Future Past. From what I've been told this is the same trailer that was shown at SDCC this summer just with a little extra post-production rubbed on it. No sentinels yet or anything.
For the uniformed Days of Future Past is one of the more iconic storylines from the 1980s X-Men comic books. It revolved around Kitty Pryde traveling to the future where she finds an apocalyptic wasteland where most of the X-Men are dead and the rest of the worlds mutants are hunted by giant purple robots. It's really the perfect storyline to lift if you're going to try and shoehorn all the stars of the original X-Men trilogy and X-Men: First Class.
Oh there will be major differences that will get all the nerds huffing and puffing but that's just par for the course with Fox. As long as this isn't another X-Men: The Last Stand I think we'll all be ok.

However if you aren't here's a video of the Ohio State Marching band and their tribute to movies that includes a dinosaur eating a guy.

This might end up being a cautionary tale to motion-capture actors and actresses. Once a cgi house has a good capture of your face and body they can pretty much manipulate it anyway that they want. It only takes one unscrupulous 3d modeler and boom, your likeness is on youporn doing really unspeakable things to Halo's Cortana.

Captain America: the Winter Soldier, the trailer

Hey kids, just in time for Thor 2 to disappoint at the box office (not a comment on the quality of the film, I just feel like Marvel is set for a bump in the road) here's the trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Interesting note on Captain America 2. Joe Johnston, the director of the first movie, has been replaced by Anthony and Joe Russo. Brothers who as far as I can tell have only directed one feature film before, You, Me and Dupree. They have directed A LOT of TV shows, some good (Arrested Development, Community) and some terrible (Animal Practice). Weird that Disney has tapped them for a big early summer blockbuster. The story that they're adapting from the comics is one of my favorite Captain America stories so hopefully they'll do it justice. I'd hate for this to just feel like a 2 hour teaser for Avengers 2.

Having a 6 week old baby has provided me with ample opportunities to watch garbage TV shows during 3am feedings. With "..the Blurst of Times" I'll tell you all about whatever horrible reality show I watched the night before.
Fangasm like Jersey Shore or the Real world before it, is one of those shows where producers throw a bunch of strangers together in a house and hope something happens while the cameras are rolling. The only difference with Fangasm is these strangers are nerds and in place of hot tub hook ups and Stephen slapping Irene we're stuck with what felt like a 6 hour commercial for Stan Lee's Comikaze.
What is Stan Lee's Comikaze you ask? Well it's a comic book/pop culture convention in Southern California that I had never heard of before this show. So you know.. it's huge. These nerdy strangers have all been given temporary internships with Comikaze so every episode follows their zany adventures as they do intern-like things such as passing out flyers and cleaning out Elvira's storage locker. At the end of the season the "winner" gets a permanent internship with Stan Lee's Comikaze.
I'll be honest with you ('cause usually I'm full of lies here) this show is terrible. But don't take my word for it. Comics Alliance and Topless Robot have their own, much better written, takedowns of the show. Just know this, I have a very low standard for entertainment as long as feel like I have a personal intrest in the subject matter. Beauty and the Geek? Loved it. King of the Nerds? Couldn't get enough! Heroes of Cosplay? Sure why not! Comic Book Men? ok, even I have standards... My point is, this show should have been right in my wheelhouse but it was SOOOOOOO contrived the best I could do was hate watch it while making snarky comments on Twitter.
On a scale of Game of Thrones to Big Bang Theory, I'll give Fangasm a D+. I wish all the geeks on the show well, but I hope SyFy never returns to this specific concept of reality show garbage. It made Beauty and the Geek look like the Wire.

This post on Imgur of the 33 Most Beautiful Abandoned Places in the World is really something else. I really love the bobsled track and the fishing hut in Germany. The hut really reminded me of a spot in Skyrim. I'm not sure what that says about me.
Normally this is one of those things that I would save for a links post but I'm thinking of taking a nap instead.

Supercut: Running in SLLLLOOOOWWW Motion
Here's a supercut of people in movies running in slow motion. It's far less T&A than the screen shot would have you believe.
I used to have the slow motion running dream a lot. Like I was always missing the bus or trying to catch someone and I could only run in slow motion. I'm sure that says something horrible and disturbing about me, like the dreams where I'm always losing my teeth. Of course now that I have the new baby at home and I'm averaging about 4 hours of sleep a night and I hardly dream at all. Go me?

Hell No: The Sensible Horror Film
My favorite thing about October (other than calling it Rocktober) is getting to watch horror movie marathons in the days leading up to Halloween. This trailer for the totally not fake at all movie, Hell No looks pretty good. I imagine it can't be very long, but that's ok. I don't have a lot of time to spend watching movies these days. I'm like 4 episodes behind on Castle.

Avalanche Sharks is your new Sharknado
Is it too early to say that SyFy has jumped the Shark on Shark movies? Sure Avalanche Sharks looks pretty good (and by that I mean spectacularly bad) but I was sort of hoping the spiritual sequel to Sharknado would have been like Octocane or Alligaphoon.
Whatever, it's hard to complain about a movie that's basically Hot Dog: The Movie + Sharks.

As a reminder that Archer is awesome, the folks at Archer have remade the Kenny Loggins Danger Zone video from Top Gun.
With the newborn baby at home I find myself up for random feedings in the dead of the night. Right now I have two go to shows on Netflix/Amazon. Always Sunny and Archer. I was watching High School of the Dead but for some reason the FREAKING SECOND SEASON ISN'T ON NETFLIX YET! Seriously, someone get on that.

Lego Ninjago Fight!
My son is SUPER into Lego Ninjago right now. If you're unfamiliar Ninjago is a line of ninja Legos. There's a TV show, a bunch of books and of course Legos. He's so into them that we went to a Lego convention this weekend and yesterday when I asked him what his favorite part was he said "the black ninja", refering to the back Ninjago mini-figure we bought him.
There was a 40,000 piece Hogwarts there and a 8 foot long Star Destroyer and to him the 4 dollar figure we bought him was the highlight of the show.

The Battlefield 4 Beta opens today. Here's a little video showcasing the Siege of Shanghai mission. It looks action packed but it also looks JUST LIKE BATTLEFIELD 3. I know all the eggs are in the next generation console basket but I was hoping there would be something that would set B4 apart from B3. It just kind of looks like a map pack. I'll keep not playing Battlefield 3 right now, thank you very much.
Kill it with fire
Here's video of Boston Dynamics newest robotic abomination the WildCat. If it's not the most terrifying thing in the world just imagine packs of these things with giant metal claws roaming the streets. Everyone is worried about zombies but it's the robot apocalypse that's going to get us.

Excuse me for a sec if I sound ignorant on the subject of cheerleading. Also this group looks like they smell like Axe body spray. A LOT of Axe Body spray.
Still, impressive video right?
