Good news everybody, 20th Century (still?) Fox has hired Mark Millar (Kick Ass, Wanted) as a creative consultant on all their movies based on Maarvel Comics. In theory he's going to be the glue that helps make the next Fantastic Four and X-Men reboot worth watching.
Now Mark Millar is a perfectly good comic book writer if you're looking for a comic where a couple of mutant siblings hook up or a a group of the Hulk's descendants turn into cannibalistic hillbillies, However I'm not sure that's what Fox is looking for with their upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. I guess it could be worse, it's not like they just hired Brett Ratner again.

MC Lars: Flow Like Poe
It's Friday morning Funk Fest (patent pending) again. This week I thought we'd drop a little knowledge with MC Lars and his latest single Flow Like Poe.
I'm a big fan of any song that starts out "Edgar Allan Poe Y'All", plus I like learning stuff. And Lars has a lot to say about ryming schemes in this. Aaron, I recommend you spend an entire day in class just playing this video and seeing what the kids learn.
Oh, and bird puppets, I'm a big fan of those too.

Did you see the Seahawks smash the Packers on Monday Night Football? I've been told there was a controversial call near the end of the game.
Monday seems to have been the tipping point as far as everyone venting their anger over the current replacement referee situation in the NFL. So far no one has really hit the league with as much haughty sarcasm as the Lingerie Football League has. That's right, the Lingerie Football League. Take it away buzzfeed blogging monkey:
So there you are. The current crop of NFL officials aren't qualified to officiate a game where women play in their underwear. Go Seahawks!

After the disaster that was last night's Monday Night Football game, the Lingerie Football League decided it could no longer stay quiet on the subject of replacement refs. They released a statement on Facebook that confirmed a story from earlier this year that revealed some of the NFL's replacement officials may have been fired by the underwear-based league. This is their statement, creative syntax and all, presented by photos of the LFL.

I know I've mentioned this before but Blogger did this big redesign a few months ago and it's made it harder to put together posts with lots of pictures in them. Overall The redesign has grown on me but because the blogger template I'm using is a bit customized I have to edit code to get pictures to look just the way I want them. It can be really time consuming. That's why probably 70 percent of all my posts are youtube video these days.
With that in mind, here's another youtube video featuring some of the amazing Marvel cosplay at this year's Dragon*Con. It's pretty impressive what a bunch of nerds can do with a sewing machine when they really put their minds to it. El Guapo wouldn't have stood a chance.

The Zombie apocalypse isn't quite happening the way comics and movies would have you believe. Zombie Bees have been spotted in my hometown of Kent, WA. What's a Zombie Bee? Hit us with some science San Francisco State biology professor John Hafernik:
According to Hafernik, infected flies land on honeybees and inject eggs into their adbomens. As the eggs begin developing, the bees start acting erratically, leaving the hive at night and congregating near lights, flying aimlessly until they die. That is terrifyingly disgustingly awesome. Seriously how metal is that? It's like a real life Alien chest-burster. I have a mini orchard in my back yard so we get a lot of bees, I'm definitely keeping my eye out for some zomb-bees. I think I'm also going to finally fix my fence and sharpen my axe. It's just Bees now but you can never be to safe.
"They basically hatch and eat the insides out of the bee," Hafernik explains.

Take a seat iPhone 5, the greatest piece of technology the world has ever seen is right here. The Popinator is a popcorn-launching “snack machine” that shoots popcorn to wherever your mouth is. Just say “pop!” and boom, popcorn right in your grill.
I hope this doesn't stop at popcorn. I'm thinking flying Oreos followed by a shot of milk would be perfect.

6 reasons 1960's Batman was the greatest guy ever. The article is really about Batman in the comics, but I've been watching a lot of old school Batman reruns lately so I went with Adam West, plus this picture is super bad ass.
The 10 Strangest Islands in the World. What no Island from Lost? Oh, these are real Islands. What no Pitcairn Islands? See I know history stuff too, it's not all comic books and TV shows.
A Knight's TV Show. I LOVE A Knights Tale. Seriously, this is one of my favorite movies ever. Rufus Sewell, Heath Ledger, Alan Tudyk, "you remind me of the bible", rapping Chaucer, Thin Lizzy, it's maybe the best movie ever. This TV Show had better get made or I'm going to be slightly annoyed and disappointed.
21 Nerdalicious Nintendo Tributes. Oh man, what I wouldn't give for a Nintendo controller coffee table. I mean I wouldn't give actual money for one, but I'd trade like my air compressor or something else I never use for one.

It's official, Marvel has named James Gunn as the director and co-writer for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. While Gunn isn't exactly Senor Spielbergo it's not like his IMDB is full of hits. He's directed Slither and Super, he co-wrote the Scooby-Doo movie and hes worked on a lot of Troma movies.. ummm... he wrote the script for the video game Chainsaw Lollipop. So that's nice, I guess. Anyway what I'm getting at is that this guy's no John Favreau and lets face it before Iron Man John Favreau was a pretty low bar.
Whatever, if he's talented who cares, right? I'd rather some guy who's done a bunch of movies I've never seen (minus Scooby-Doo) than McG of more Brett Ratner.
The thing I really can't believe is that Marvel has decided to throw 100+ million dollars at a Guardians of the Galaxy Movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the GOTG, I think I have all 4 trade paperbacks of the new series but that's just it, GOTG was canceled like a year ago. I think there are just 4 trade paperbacks. It's an interesting place for Marvel to go when there are teams and characters with a much larger history sitting on the shelf waiting to be used. Some that might even be recognizable to the average non-comic reading moviegoer (Hercules, Spider-Woman, Dr. Strange).
I really hope the movie does well, like I said I really like the Guardians and a hit might open the doors for more diverse comic book movies. Anything that might get DC and Warner Brothers off their ass would be awesome, Seriously, where's my Wonder Woman movie?

I'm telling you the more I see of this game the closer they are to getting my money. I'm not tired of first person shooters like a lot of people are, I'm just tired of the same faux-military wank fests that have stolen hours of my life over the last couple years. Far Cry obviously doesn't take itself to serious, and it looks like the gameplay could have some interesting touches.

Here's the new Hobbit trailer that is sure to be everywhere on the net today. It looks pretty cool, I like how the dwarves look like real badasses.
I just finished reading all the Game of Thrones books, maybe the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings should be next on my list. I remember reading the Hobbit in jr high and liking it a lot but then I tried to read the other books and just couldn't do it. Maybe now that I'm slightly less obsessed with girls and video games I'll have the patience required.

I know this is probably a little too up my alley, but I think it looks rad. Of course I grew up on Qbert, played Street Fighter II at the local 7-11 and still have a Super Nintendo plugged into his TV. I wonder how it's going to play with kiddies that don't remember life before portable 3D gaming.

How to Explain your favorite show to different people. The only problem here is that they're assuming your nerdy friend hasn't already read all the books and torrented every episode. Also good luck with the cute puppy angle, I'm pretty sure when they start killing babies in the second season those puppies are going to help your cause.
There's like 3 more of these so make sure you click through.
Here's the new Robocop Suit. Yeesh. It looks like they went to TJ Maxx and picked up a suit that was originally meant for GI Joe 2. There's nothing here that makes me think he's an actual cyborg as opposed to some guy in a goofy suit. Oh well, it's not like anyone thought this was going to be any good.
10 Ridiculous DOS Game Covers with Celebrities on Them. This whole article makes me miss PC gaming in the 80s and 90s. I'm sure if I went back now and played The Horde or Police Quest they would be terrible. I'll just have to drown my nostalgia with a heavy dose of Borderlands 2. Have I talked about Borderlands 2 lately?
Can you guess the prices from this 1996 Best Buy Flyer. Some of these prices are pretty eye opening. I'm pretty sure my parents had that Toshiba 100mhz Pentium Laptop in the flyer, I had no idea they made that kind of money.

Anyway it's a good reminder that a new season of the Walking Dead is right around the corner. AMC isn't on Dish Network anymore so I guess I'll have to wait until the episodes are available on Xbox Live or something.
I've been trying to download stuff less lately. I mean it is stealing, why bother when there's all this good stuff on Netflix I haven't watched yet? Have you seen Luthor? Man, Idris Elba is dreamy.

Having the Hanta Virus (or something slightly less lethal) all week has provided me with ample opportunities to explore the depths of Netflix instant in between coughing fits while hoped up on Nyquil and codine. With "..the Blurst of Times" I'll tell you all about whatever horrible abortion of a TV show I watched the night before (or in this case last week).
Highschool of the Dead had me at the title. Two things you probably already know about me: I love Zombies and over the last 2 years have watched almost every episode of 90210. Even the really terrible post college ones when Brandon leaves and they bring back Dylan. Woof, those episodes are terrible.
Anyhoo, Highschool of the Dead (yes it's supposed to be misspelled) is about a bunch of kids dealing with a zombie invasion during 4th period. The show throws you right into the action, with a small group of kids already on the run from a zombie horde. The animation is pretty tight, they cut a lot of corners by using these sort of styalized still shots. You've seen them if you've watched any adult swim. The kind where a character covered in blood stands all heroic with just a small lock of hair moving in the breeze. The English dub is pretty good too, the acting isn't the best but whoever translated the show did a decent job.
It's been a while since I've really watched any anime, but I don't remember them being this jiggly. Seriously the boobs they are a bouncing in this. There's no nudity or sex, at least not yet but sometimes it feels like I'm watching Dead or Alive Zombie Beach Volleyball the movie. I think if my wife saw me watching it she'd just point and laugh at me.
On a scale of 1 to Battle Royale, Highschool of the Dead scores a baseball bat to the side of the head. It's not a headshot but it more than gets the job done.

RIP G4, 2002-2012. G4 has finally gone the way of the Virtua Boy and Atari Jaguar, yesterday they announced that they are going to rename and rebrand the channel. They claim they're going to "take G4 in a direction reminiscent of GQ". I think that's TV speak for Boondock Saints and Entourage marathons as far as the eye can see.
Story time! Way way back in 2002 my parents moved from Seattle to Phoenix leaving behind the boat that they had lived in. Since it was free rent I moved back on board, the only hitch was that it was moored 30 miles away from Seattle in a super cheap dive of a marina. My reaction to feeling so isolated from my friends and hometown was to watch A LOT of TV. I was saving tons of money on rent, so I went with the $250 a month cable deal that at the time included a fledgling little network called G4.
G4 quickly became my favorite channel. There were video game reviews, video game trailers, shows where people played video games, shows were people told you how to play video games. It was awesome. I was super into it to, I was on the forums and would e-mail some of the shows.
Sometime in 2003 I moved back to Seattle and my super limited basic cable plan, so I said goodbye to G4 until I got married to my wife and her super deluxe cable plan in 2006. By then the network had changed so much it was unrecognizable. Sure Attack of the Show was still geared towards nerds but it wasn't G4TV. And Xplay was a shell of what it once was. Oh yeah, and the Cops reruns.. so many Cops reruns.
So rest in peace G4, you were a nerdy thing I once liked. You may be gone but the memories remain.
The CW is working on a Wonder Woman Pilot. Supposedly the series is called "Amazon" and will look at her early years of crime fighting. So really it's just Smallville Vol 2. I cant wait for season 9 when she finally puts on the real Wonder Woman costume!
22 Examples of Cartoon Logic. My favorite, while not shown, is Goofy and Pluto. Why does a Dog need a Dog?
Cristiano Ronaldo is to "sad" to score goals. Oh, F this guy. Long story short, Ronaldo scored two goals last weekend but he didn't celebrate because he's sad. I play soccer every week and you know how long it's been since I've scored a goal? Its been about 3 years. On behalf of defenders everywhere Ronaldo can get bent.

I saw this alternate cover to the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #700 on tumblr and I had to post it here. It's got to be one of the coolest covers I've ever seen. For those not in the know, the New York skyline Spidey is swinging over is comprised of the most notable artists and writers for ASM over the last 50 years.
I'm not sure if this is one of those 1-50 variants that's impossible to get or not. Hopefully I can get my grubby little hands on this without having to take out a second mortgage on the house.

Well it's back, in pog web video form. The only thing that could make me happier this morning is hearing that they're going to make more episodes of Clone High.

My favorite part of this is when Assassin's Creed guy does like 2 minutes of parkour only to get blasted by an 4-bit tank. Or maybe it's how Master Chief just kinda stands around watching the whole thing. Way to get in there and mix it up!

Here's an incredible table tennis shot from the 2012 London Paralympics Games. This is much cooler than anything I saw at the regular Olympics, seriously where's Bob Costas and Ryan Seacrest when something interesting actually happens?

Early word on the street is that Pax was pretty cool this year. A friend of mine got a copy of Far Cry 3 and a free mohawk. Technically I think you got the game if you agreed to let them cut your hair in a mohawk, but I used to pay like 9 bucks at the Greenwood styling academy for a good mohawk, so a free mohawk is a good deal.
Anyway, Borderlands 2 has gone gold and is due in stores middle of this month. There are a lot of hands on at PAX videos out there but this extended trailer released a couple days ago is better than most. It's certainly better than watching the developers try and backpedal over this whole "girlfriend mode fiasco" they're still dealing with.
Long story long I think I'm picking this up. I love RPG elements in first person shooters and I'm still a big fan of split screen gaming. Plus you know, the bazillion guns. 59.99 for a bazillion guns is still a pretty good deal.
