Pre Vis Action

Pre Vis Action is a short film created by Yayan Ruhian, Cecep Arif Rahman and Gareth Evans, 3 guys best knows for their work on The Raid. It went up on youtube a few months ago but up until recently I wasn't able to embed it. Here's the quick description:

In a time of civil war, a young warrior is given the task of delivering a treaty between two rival lords. During her journey through the woods however, she finds herself hunted by two assassins intent on intercepting her message of peace in a bid to maintain the fear, instability and violent rule of their leader.

I hope this is a precursor to something bigger. I'd love to see a genre movie like this from the guys that made The Raid. Really I'd just like to see anything from those guys. It was cool seeing them in The Force Awakens but they didn't really get to run on any walls and snap any necks in that.

Summer '78

Here's a fun little short film about a kid playing with some of the early Star Wars toys. It's enjoyable enough, it's certainly worth three and a half minutes of your time. It's good enough that I'll forgive the filmmakers for calling it Summer '78 when it shows toys that weren't available until '79.

Human Revolution: Deus Ex

Here's another fun violent short sci-fi film from Machinima. This one I've watched half of before I had to get to work this morning. I actually thought the first person camera work was not bad. Usually I feel like that trick is stupid and cheap but since this is an homage to a video game I thought it worked well. I do sort of doubt that a cigar cutter could really take off a finger. You'd cut someone to the bone but unless you were at a joint I doubt it would go all the way through. Totes unrealistic.

ah ha ha ha Staying Alive Gable 5

One of the panels I went to this weekend at Emerald City Comic Con (more on that later) was a Q&A with Eliza Dushku. She wasn't as entertaining as Richard Dean Anderson but she was a lot nicer to look at. She talked quite a bit about this short film called The Gable 5. I haven't watched it yet but a room full of nerds thought it was good. Ok, maybe just the 1/4 of the room that had seen it.

Let's Shogun Tango

This is Shogun Tango, a short film from brothers Christopher and Greg Desantis. It sort of like the pod race scene in Star Wars if the pod race scene in Star Wars hadn't sucked.

If I could rule Hollywood for a day I would green light the crap out of any movie either set in a dystopian future or featuring any sort of racing to the death. After that I'd deport all the Kardashians and Lohans. Then after that I'd probably eat a sandwich. That's a full days work right there.
