Portal vs Half-Life

It's the gal from Portal vs the guy from Half-Life, to the death, finally! I guess.. I don't know. Are these battle videos something that really interest people? It's like 2 weeks old and it doesn't have a million hits yet so I'm going to say not really. The thing I found most interesting about it is how well the special effects are done. I'll bet this whole video was put together by less than a dozen people and it looks pretty darn good. Like action movie from the late 90s good, or Action TV show from the early 2000s good. Computers man, is there anything they can't do?

Did You Know Gaming: Team Fortress 2

Oh Team Fortress Classic... so many hours. So many hours.

This episode of Did You Know Gaming takes a look at Team Fortress 2. Now I'll freely admit, I've played TF2 for a total of like 30 minutes but I've played hours and hours of Team Fortress Classic, so I was very excited to see this video. I'm not gonna front, TFC had it's problems but it's still one of my favorite games ever. My glasses might be a bit rose colored as it was the first game I ever really played on-line with a decent high speed internet connection.

I never did get into TF2. By the time I picked it up on the 360 it was already 3 years old so the on-line community was pretty stout. I remember being really frustrated with finding servers and getting my ass whooped all the time. Still, it was easily my most anticipated game of 1999.

Mystery Solved

I'll say this once. If Half-Life 3 doesn't ship with the new Steam Machines I'll eat my hat.

Not Half Life 3

Valve made the last of their big announcements last week and it wasn't Half Life 3. It wasn't even Half Life 2: Episode 3. It was this ugly ass controller for their upcoming console/PC Steam Machines. I don't want to tell Valve how to do their business but come on, no one is going to use this. They're just going to keep using Xbox 360 controllers because even with the janky d-pad it's still the best controller out there. No one is going to use the buttonless monstrosity. It's like the Kinnect for your thumbs.

Pajama Links

Valve announces free operating system SteamOS. It's linux based and it's primarily a streaming service designed for living rooms. Supposedly they already have some big name publisher and games lined up. I'll eat my hat if on Wednesday they don't announce Half-Life 3 or at the very least Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I'm not 100% sure this is the game changer the internet is making it out to be or if this is just away for Valve to push Steam onto smart TVs and Roku like devices.

I Sold Too Many Copies of GTA V To Parents Who Didn't Give a Damn. Ugh parents are the worst. Seriously, I let my kid play a lot of video games and watch a lot of cartoons and youtube clips on line but I'm always paying attention to what he's watching and if it's inappropriate I steer him somewhere else. I just can't fathom the kind of disengagement that would lead to a parent thinking it's ok for a 12 year old to play any Grand Theft Auto game.

The Cat(woman)’s Pajamas - Yes, You Can Now Go To Bed As Catwoman. I'm totes getting this for my wife for Christmas. In semi-related news on the evening of December 25th I will be sleeping on the couch.

Ten DC Characters Who Will Never Be Seen in Live-Action. JK, Wonder Woman isn't on the list. But she should be. Marvel comics is making a movie about an anamorphic racoon with a giant gun before DC can get around to putting together an honest effort on a Wonder Woman movie.

My guess is that if Superman/Batman is successful DC will roll out most of the Justice League in a similar fashion. A Batman movie with Green Arrow in it. A Superman movie with Wonder Woman. A team up movie with Flash and Batman and Green Lantern.. Essentially they're too scared to have another Green Lantern flop on their hands soeverything will be tied to one of the two successes they've had in the last decade.

Half Life: Enter the Freeman

Check out this trailer for Half Life 3: Enter the Freeman. Jk, it's a kick ass Half Life fan film. Man you should have seen the look on your face.

It was made over a weekend for a little over $3,000, which is pretty amazing when you think about it. Clerks cost something like $27,000 and it didn't have a single headcrab. Seriously though, this thing starts out a little slow but it is awesome.

Occupy Half-Life 2

This weekend 30,000 people from a community group on Steam are planning to play Half-Life 2. They're doing it to try and get Valve's attention. As you may or may not be aware, Half-Life 2 is going to be 8 years old this year and Valve has been incredibly closed mouthed about a sequel. Considering the last Half-Life expansion, Episode 2, ended with a pretty big cliffhanger this has become a sort of sore spot with fans of the series.

The group isn't specifically asking for a sequel, they just want to know if they'll ever see one. Which seems pretty reasonable and a great excuse to play Half-Life 2 again.

The Links Ends

The Dark Knight Rises gets a poster. I just read the novelization of the Batman: No Man's Land storyline by Chuck Dixon (yeah I'm that kind of nerd), and man I've never been more excited to see Bane on the big screen. I'm not the biggest bat-nerd in the world so I've really only known Bane from his cartoon and video game appearances. He is an excellent character, and I'm hoping he doesn't get lost in the Catwoman shuffle.

The 9 greatest Nerd Fears Today. One of these is that your kid will end up loving the Star Wars Prequels more than the original trilogy... oh man that hits home. This Halloween I had two different kids dressed as clone troopers ask me who I was dressed up as. I'm Han Solo you little anklebitter, no candy for you!

New Amazing Spider-Man trailer. I know, games based on movies like this usually suck but I'm going to go ahead and get my hopes up anyway. The graphics look sick, if they gameplay is just halfway decent this might be worth a look.

Half-Life 3 Confirmed OMG! Ok, so Valve isn't confirming Half-Life 3 but they're teasing the hell out of it. Diablo 3 and Half-Life 3 in 2012? Looks like it's time to put together a new gaming rig.

Half-Life: Origins

There have been 4 Resident Evil movies and not one Half-Life movie? Think about it. Is there any video game better suited for the big screen? Alien invasions, scientific experiments gone awry, vast government conspiracies? It's got summer blockbuster staring Will Smith written all over it.

Someone start working on it, stat.
