It was announced today that X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn was out as director for the next X-Men film, Days of Future Past. I'd like to think this is a surprise, but it's not. No one wanted to direct X-Men 3, at least no one competent, and The Wolverine went through half a dozen directors before they settled on James Mangold. Fox is pretty much a terrible movie studio, it's kind of amazing when they do actually stumble into a good movie.
Word on the street is they want Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2) back in the directors chair. If they can get him that would be great but they wanted him to direct First Class and that didn't happen he just stayed on as a producer. It's like everyone wants their say in the movie but no one actually wants to take responsibility for directing it. I'm sure it will work out great when Fox finally hires McG or Tyler Perry.
