Richard Garriott, otherwise known as the famous Lord British, creator of the historical Ultima, announced at South by Southwest that he is working on a new online game set in the world of Britannia, under the guise of Lord British. Why didn’t he just say he’s working on a new Ultima? He doesn’t own the license, as Electronic Arts still has that under their thumb

Booo Electronic arts! Like we need one more reason to hate EA. Geekosystem has more of the early details. They use words like "social network game" which of course scares the crap out of me. Still it's hard not to get excited when the creator of the absolute best computer game of all time (Ultima IV)is going back to the well one last time.

The Japan Earthquake moved time
I've been addicted to footage from the Earthquake/Tsunami in Japan all weekend. I actually couldn't find the clip I wanted to post here but this one above will do. I find it hard to actually wrap my head around something as powerful and devastating as this earthquake, even with all the amazing video we've been seeing. To wit..
That's right, the Japan Earthquake changed the speed at which the earth spins! It also moved the entire island of Japan by about 8 feet. 8 feet! I had to have four friends over to help me move a big chair 8 feet last weekend.
According to Richard Gross, a geophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the earthquake actually accelerated Earth’s spin (by rearranging enough mass), which shortened the length of the day by 1.8 microseconds. To put that into perspective a bit, a microsecond is one millionth of a second, so we won’t have to reinvent the clock anytime soon.

Jeff Hardy is riding the snake
This is sort of off topic even for me, but it's so good I thought I'd share. Last night at TNA Wrestling (yeah it's a real thing) had a Pay Per View and the main even was a title match between Sting and Jeff Hardy (1999 here we come!). The match lasted less than 2 minutes, why? Because Jeff Hardy was cracked out of his mind.
Watch the video before it gets taken down. Hardy can barely even make his way to the ring and once he's there he has no idea what to do. It's obvious at the end that Sting and the ref decided to end this before anyone got hurt (not counting the people who paid 29.99 to watch this of course). Hopefully Jeff Hardy will get some help before he finds himself wrestling Jake the Snake at the VFW hall next month. Or maybe not, that match sounds kinda good. I was always a sucker for Damien.

What Pi sounds like
So believe it or not today is Pi day. Honestly, if you already new that or have been looking forward to today you might want to put down the test tubes and go outside for a few minutes.
Anyhoo, here's a song written to the tune of Pi. Musician Michael Blake assigned note values to numerals and played pi to the first 31 decimal places. Then he threw in some bad ass instruments like the accordion and banjo. Really all it's missing is a bassoon, but you could say that about anything.

Video Gaming the "silent killer", except for the killing part

Spending two hours on a game station is equivalent to taking a line of cocaine in the high it produces in the brain," said in a Pope BBC Radio 5Live interview. "It's the silent killer of our generation."
"We're now onto second generation game station players who have always grown up with it," he added. "Computer game addiction can also spiral into violence -- as after playing violent games, they may turn their fantasy games into reality. It is the fastest growing addiction in the country and this is affecting young people mentally and physically"
He said most kids will react "in the same way as an alcoholic would if you tried to take their booze – it's scary".

First off, where's my game station? I'll bet it has awesome games like Bonestorm and Lee Carvallo's putting challenge. It's probably only available in Europe, thanks for nothing Sony.
Second off, this is retarded. Yes there are people completely addicted to video games there are even some people that have had violent reactions and outburst after or during game play, but they're way way in the minority. This is like saying couch cushions are the scourge of humanity because TLC had a show about some woman who couldn't stop eating them. Anecdotal evidence isn't something you can simply extrapolate into a statistical trend. This guy's talking out his ass.
Third off, have you ever tried to take anything away from a kid? My kid is going through a phase where he likes to lick the TV, if you move him away from the TV or heaven forbid turn it off, he throws a hissy like you wouldn't believe.
In conclusion don't be an idiot. Don't let your 10 year old play games rated M for mature. Don't let them stay up until 3am playing WOW. Do however tell them it's ok to punch Steve Pope square in the mouth the next time they see him. The world will be a better place for it.
New Super 8 trailer
Ok so it's no 5 fast 5 furious, but this new trailer for Super 8 looks pretty awesome. The first teaser made me believe this was going to be another shaky cam kinda joint like Cloverfield. While I liked Cloverfield I'm kinda glad this looks more like a regular film. Also it has a whole Goonies/Stand by Me/Monster Squad thing going for it. I half expected Corey Feldman to pop up at the end, I was only half disappointed when he didn't.
