First I'd like to start with a quick programming note. Haven't had much time to blog lately and odds are that's going to get worse before it gets better. At work we're moving to a new inventory/ordering system and I've spent tons of extra time in training and blah blah blah. Things should get better in late April but until then posts are going to be even more sporadic than usual.
Cosplay Melee is a show I watched! It's true, it was on TV and everything. I think this is the 2nd Cosplay show SyFy has tried to get off the ground and I can definitively say it's much better than Heroes of Cosplay. Yes, it uses a tired competitive format that really isn't what Cosplay is about but as far as entertaining TV it works so much better than the artificial drama of Heroes of Cosplay. The format is familiar to anyone that's watched TV in the last 15 years, it's essentially Chopped for Cosplay.
Its not groundbreaking TV by any means, and yes it's all very silly but watching the skill and work the cosplayers put into their outfits and props is really interesting. The first episode included just enough personal history of the contestants to keep it interesting without having to get into any sort of artificial personal drama that Heroes of Cosplay tried to play up.
If you like watching people build stuff, especially foam suits of armor, it's well worth checking out. It's not going to bump Legion off your DVR or anything but it's the perfect show to have on in the background while you're playing Overwatch or something.
