Iron Man 2 mini review

Heard about this Iron Man movie?

So to help celebrate the release of Iron Man 2, Marvel is flooding us with Iron Man variant covers. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I kinda like the idea. Generally speaking varients are for suckers, and I'm not a fan of having cover art that doesn't match the interior work but in this case I think I can make an exception.

This seems to be a good way to cash in on the movie but at the same time spare us from another Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas.

you can find more covers at TheDailyPop

more Iron Man 2 in your grill

Finally some new Iron Man 2 footage. These guys really should take a page from Kick-Ass. That movie has released so much footage you could put together a directors cut blue ray already.

Anyway this clip features one of the only good songs by AC/DC post Bon Scott and dancing girls wearing slutty iron man outfits. Basically it's the greatest clip evah.

Fake Iron Man Trailer Owns Real Iron Man Trailer

Some uber-nerd on the interwebs took time from his busy nerd schedule and took all the available Iron Man 2 footage and mashed it into one super awesome trailer. It's like the Devastator of Iron Man 2 trailers.

Iron Man 2, the trailer, the sequel

You go away on vacation for a couple days and what happens. Corey Haim dies and they release a new Iron Man 2 trailer. I don't want to know what would have happened to Corey Feldman if I had stayed in Arizona for a full week.

Oh yeah, Iron man 2 still looks totally bad ass.

Whiplash needs a shower

Funny there's been lots of Iron Man 2 stuff rolling out the last week or so. Seems kinda early to crank up the hype machine on a movie that doesn't even come out until next May but what do I know? Above is the new Whiplash poster that hit the interwebs today. It's our best look at the whole Whiplash rig so far. I'm kinda digging it, it looks crappy enough have been built by someone without the resources of a billion dollar weapons manufacturer but still menacing enough to imagine Iron Man having trouble fighting it.

I've included a bunch of other stills in the gallery bellow. Can't wait to see War Machine in action.

Geeky movie round up

Here's some random comic book movie news from the last week or so accompanied by random comic book-ish pictures.

Lets start with former Marvel comics artist and Deadpool creator, Rob Liefeld leaking some news via twitter about a possible Wolverine/X-Men spin-off staring Deadpool.
Walking into Deadpool movie meeting!!! Yowza!

Great Deadpool movie meeting! Lauren Schuler Donner and her team are headed in the right direction!

Deadpool movie- YES! Ryan Reynolds is on board!!!

Deadpool movie checklist- DP in costume-check! Breaking 4th wall-check! Loads of killing-double check!

Also excited to discuss possibilities of Cable in future X-films!!!
~ Rob Liefeld via twitter (ugh)

Dang that's a lot of exclamation points... Ryan Reynolds was excellent as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but he was also in the movie for like 3 minutes and by the end of the film they had completely botched the Deadpool character. I want to believe this movie could be awesome, but seeing how it'll be made by Fox I'm not holding my breath.

Here's some news on a Spider-man 3 spin-off no one wants
Now Sony is going forward with a Venom spinoff movie, which pretty much has fans split down the middle. Will it finally do the fanged black-ooze baddie justice, or will it be more of the same? The good news is that Zombieland co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been tasked with penning the project (Zombieland is awesome, so fingers crossed).

Today Wernick confirmed to us that the project is still moving forward and the writing team has turned the script in to the suits at Sony. "We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward," Wernick told SCI FI Wire in an exclusive interview.
~ Sci-Fi Wire

Venom can be a great villain, but all through the 90s Marvel proved that he's an awful good guy. If Sony wants to make a Venom movie in the horror/action mold akin to something like Predator or Aliens it would be sweet. However, If they try to do the whole anti-hero thing with Venom you might as well subtitle the movie Venom: Box Office Poison.

And lastly and oldie but a goodie. From the Iron Man 2 Mickey Rourke explains how he brings a little something extra to the character of Whiplash...
Rourke, for his part, wanted to instill some lightness into the role. “I told Favreau, ‘I don’t want to just play him as a one-dimensional pussy’” he says. “He let me have a cockatoo, who I talk to and get drunk with while I’m making my suit.”
~ Cinematical

That's right, nothing says fully dimensional characterization like giving a character a random pet for a side-kick. Thanks Mickey, you're a gift that keeps on giving.

Black Widow is teh Hotness

Scarlett Johannson is what some would call mildly attractive. This is the first picture of her in her black widow costume, soon to be published in Entertainment Weekly. I'm not sure this makes up for the shirtless Ryan Reynolds covers from a couple weeks ago, but it's a step in the right direction.

Oh yeah they have a picture of Gwyneth Paltrow too. meh

This was already in Mickey Rourke's closet

If you've been living in a blog free cave you probably missed this picture of Mickey Rourke from the set of Iron Man 2. In it he plays "classic" Iron Man villain Whiplash and you know what? He kinda looks stupid. Of course Whiplash, while being one of my favorite Iron Man villains, has always looked a bit stupid. Lets stroll down memory lane...

Here's his first costume.. nice pony tail dude. It really goes well with the blue spandex/orange cape and loincloth thing he has going for him. Whiplash entered the "scene" at Marvel as a sort of throw away Maffia enforcer. He has no special powers just a super charged whip and a side-kick that can hypnotize you... oooooo!

Here's his second, and in my opinion best, costume. This is from a couple years later, when he started calling himself Blacklash and was written as a more sympathetic character. Instead of just some 2 bit hood, he was shown to be a insecure guy who was just trying to make a name for himself. This particular comic (Marvel Team-Up #145) ends with his mother refusing to take his phone call from prison. kinda sad.

Enter the late 1990s. Marilyn Manson and Limp Bizkit were popular, so I'm going to blame his "gimp from pulp fiction" look on the MTV. I'm guessing that when the Iron Man 2 costume designers were coming up with something for Mickey Rourke to run around in, this was the look they were referencing. It's to bad considering this outfit looked dated the second it first appeared. It's easily Whiplash's worst outfit, big words considering all the fake pony tails he's sported in the past.

Anyway if this is what they've come with up for Whiplash, it should be interesting to see what they do with Scarlett Johansson/Black Widow's costume.
