Netflix Says Yes to More Punisher

In what might be the least surprising news of the day, Netflix has reportedly ordered a Punisher Spin-Off series. I have yet to watch Daredevil Season 2 but from what I understand The Punisher plays a large roll in the first 4 or 5 episodes. A couple of the more mainstream media outlets like Entertainment Weekly didn't really think the Punisher stuff was that great but from the buzz on twitter a lot of net nerds really really liked it so I'm not surprised at all that Netflix would order a spin-off.

If I had to take a guess, I don't think this will be the last time Netflix will green light a spin off based off one of their Marvel properties. I'll bet this will become pretty standard practice. Marvel's original deal with Netflix was for 4 series. Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, with a small mini-series team up show with all those characters in it called The Defenders. Even with the short 10-13 episode seasons they use that's like 52 episodes, more when you start including the second seasons. That's a lot of time to sort of test the waters with new characters that Marvel doesn't have movie plans for. Hopefully, fingers crossed we can get a Runaways series out of this. If Ned Stark losing his head blew your mind, the finale of Runaways would like... double blow your mind.

Another Daredevil Trailer

I should probably stop complaining about the number of Trailers Netflix releases for their Marvel shows. They're not like a regular network that can just run commercials for Agents of SHIELD every commercial break or anything like that. They kind of have to make a big splash on the internet to drum up attention and attract new subscribers.

Also I'm perfectly ok with their decision to showcase a wet Deborah Ann Woll. She is not unattractive, which of course is a total waste for freaking Daredevil the blind superhero. Forget his radar sense, Daredevil's real superpower is the ability to attract supermodels with his frumpy suits and poor social skills.

Daredevil Season 2: Official Trailer

The first "trailer" for Daredevil Season 2 hit the interwebs yesterday. I use quotes around the word trailer because Netflix and Marvel have this thing where they release endless teasers, trailers and first looks until I'm convinced I've actually seen the first episode before it's available. Even this trailer they're calling "part 1", what the hell does that mean? You're releasing trailers in two parts now? Yargh!

As for the actual video, it looks super dope. The Punisher is natural antagonist for Daredevil. Daredevil is all full of Catholic guilt and no mater how much he punches guys he generally doesn't cross the murder line. Punisher is the exact opposite, he has like anti-guilt. To him killing bad guys is a moral imperative and Daredevil is just another sheep that hasn't woken up to the cold hard reality they're living in. This should be good stuff.

Marvel's Daredevil - Coming Soon, Season 2

Hey kids, it's a teaser trailer for the upcoming season of Daredevil. You know what this means, only 2 more teasers, 4 trailers and 14 TV commercials to go! I kid, but seriously Netflix needs to Netflix and chill.

This is as good of a time as any to write a bit about Jessica Jones. The wife and I finished up the first season a couple days ago, it was fine. I'm kind of surprised the majority of people I hear talk about say they like it better than Daredevil. I thought the main characters on Daredevil were more likable and that the show as a whole was a bit more accessible for the average TV viewer (ie not a big old nerd). I will say David Tennant absolutely killed it, watching him chew scenery the last few episodes was quite the treat.

I'll still check out the second season whenever it comes around but I'm not putting in my top 10 list or anything. It was a great show to binge watch while every other show was on winter break. 7/10?

Daredevil: Season 2 Trailer

So this last weekend at New York City Comic-Con the trailer for season 2 of Daredevil was shown. Since then it's getting posted and pulled down everywhere. This video from twitter seems to have stayed up for a while, so lets go with it. Maybe it stays up through the end of the day?

Daredevil: Trailer #2!

Hey kiddos here's the new trailer for Netflix's Daredevil series that every other geek blog is talking about right now. I'm sure Buzzfeed or Uproxx probably already has a "10 best gifs from the new Daredevil trailer" post up by now.

Am I taking crazy pills or do Foggy Nelson and Matt Murdock look super young in this? Lawyers can't really be that young can they? Doesn't it take like 12 years of college to become a lawyer? Other than that this show looks pretty dope. It's the kind of show Marvel should have probably started with as opposed to Agents of SHIELD.

Here's that Daredevil "Teaser Trailer"

Seriously it's like words have no meaning anymore. Why is this a teaser trailer? It's almost a minute and a half long, that's a trailer. Ok, Kevin. Breathe deep.

Whatever you call this preview, I think it looks pretty cool. Some people are already panicking over Daredevil's generic black crimefighting outfit. There's a reason it's so JC Penny-tastic, this is clearly based off the Daredevil origin story The Man Without Fear. In that story Daredevil doesn't just go from lawyer to costumed crimefighter instantly. It's a bit of a slow build. I'm guessing by the end of this first season we'll see him in the more traditional red outfit everyone is accustomed to.

I'm eagerly anticipating April 10th.

Daredevil: The Trailer Teaser Trailer to the Teaser?

I don't even know what this is. A Teaser trailer to tomorrow's trailer? A preview trailer to tomorrow's teaser? It's all so stupid. It's 7 seconds of Daredevil walking down a hall and going into a door and here I am linking to it like an idiot. Oh well, you win this time Netflix. I guess we all know what I'm going to be posting tomorrow.

Daredevil Gets a Release Date

A couple days ago Marvel released what they're calling a "motion poster", which is basically just a short youtube clip that announces the release date for the Netflix Daredevil series. I guess I'm excited. A few years ago I lobbied the idea that Marvel should introduce some of it's lesser heroes (like Iron Fist) in a collection of short films. Of course I never anticipated the demand for Superheroes on TV so now it sounds stupid. In a way I'm getting what I wanted. I'm just not super excited about the Netflix policy of releasing every episode all at once.

Call me an old crank but there's something fun about watching a serialized tv show presented at a deliberate pace. In many ways it's similar to the traditional comic book format. Delayed gratification and all that. Binge watching has its time and place but so does suspense and anticipation. I don't know, I'm just spitballing ideas, trying to figure out why I'm so indifferent to the announcement. Maybe I should stop thinking about the race to review and recap every episode and concentrate on Rosario Dawson as Night Nurse.

New Daredevil Trailer.. kind of

This falls into the "things I wanted to write about but never had the chance" category. A week or two ago new came out that Marvel/Disney and Fox were trying to barter movie rights. Long story short, Fox owns the rights to Daredevil but not for much longer. If they don't get a movie going immediately the rights will revert back to Marvel. Reportedly Marvel told Fox they could extend those rights if they gave up the rights to Galactus and the Silver Surfer (which came with the Fantastic Four package). Fox told marvel to suck an egg and now they've canceled their plans for a Daredevil reboot, so in another few weeks those rights will revert back to Marvel.

The good news here is that Marvel can now add Daredevil to their extended universe of films. I mean, technically he is an Avenger now, why not roll him out for Avengers II: The Search for more Money? The bad news is that Fox keeps Galactus and Silver Surfer, at least for a couple more years, so there's no chance of them showing up in either an Avengers sequel of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Which leads us to this "sizzle reel" for the Daredevil movie Fox had zero faith in. It's a period piece set in the 70s that was supposed to lean heavily on Frank Miller's themes and tones. It looks about as good as you can get while still technically having Ben Affleck as Daredevil.
