American Gods, Official Trailer

Yesterday saw the release of the first "official" trailer for Starz new series American Gods. It's super bloody and sort of crazy looking. I think I like it?

It's been a few years since I read it but I remember liking American Gods, just not loving it. I do remember thinking it would make a really great movie. Frankly there were a lot of ideas in the book that I didn't think were fully realized so I thought a 2 hour adaption to sort of trim the fat would be good for the story. Here we have the exact opposite, I have no idea how they're going to draw everything out to a 10 episode series. I can't imagine there being a season 2 unless they really go off the reservation.

Whatever the end result might be the trailer is good enough to have me check out at least the first episode. I'm already crazy behind on every TV show I watch, what's one more added to the list?

HBO exec explains why they aren't making that American Gods series. With the critical and commercial success of Game of Thrones a lot of book nerds were excited about HBO adapting Neil Gaiman's bestseller American Gods into a TV series. After a year or two of development HBO ended up passing. Their reasons are pretty good. Hopefully the show will still get picked up somewhere. It's one of the few books I've read recently that I felt was screaming for a movie/tv adaption as I was reading it.

Modder Finds Files for Better Graphics in Watch Dogs’ PC Version. Remember how 2 years ago Watch Dogs blew everyone away with a super bad ass trailer at E3 and when the game finally came out this year everyone was like, meh? Turns out Ubisoft nerfed the game on purpse. A modder found a bunch of left over textures hidden in the game files that improve the games graphics.

One of two things probably happened here. Either they made the game look worse on PC so it would port better to Xbone and PS4 or they developed for hardware specs that never happened. Either way the PC master race kind of got screwed on this one. Maybe once it's all settled down Ubi will release a patch that improves the graphics to where they should be.

28 of the Best Burgers of the Day From ‘Bob’s Burgers’. I'm sooo sad. This weekend I watched the last Bob's Burgers available on Netflix. It's been my go to show for midnight feedings the last month or two. I've tried Attack on Titan but it's a bit too serious for 1am, plus all the subtitles. I've also tried Venture Bros but man the animation and pacing on the first season is ROUGH. Orphan Black is too long... I don't know. I never did watch the new season of Arrested Development. That should last what, a week?

12 Video Game Annoyances That Need to Die (Part 1). Ugh.. I'm so tired of pay to play games. Every game I download on the kindle for my son is jacked up with pay to play bs. I'd gladly pay 9.99 or whatever for Angry Birds Go if they would just let me/him play the game. As it stands you have to play for HOURS if you want to unlock the cars you need to unlock the last couple levels and after you've raced 5 times then you either have to stop playing for 30 minutes or pony up some Gems, which cost a fortune. And that's not even getting to the telepods... damn telepods.

American Gods gets the Game of Thrones Treatment

So word on the street is that HBO is looking at giving American Gods a giant key to the city. The key being a 60 episode, 6 season commitment, with a total budget of 35-40 Million dollars. That my friends is cray cray. Don't get me wrong, I'm super pumped to see a TV adaption of American Gods, I just can't believe HBO is willing to commit to 60 episodes and a truck full of cash to something as weird as American Gods. I mean we're not talking about proven genres like Band of Brothers or even Game of Thrones. American Gods is this really esoteric morality tale about reincarnated gods that most people have never heard of. It's cool and all, but it doesn't scream smash hit to me. Then again what do I know, I'm wacked out on ultrasounds and codeine right now.

Word on the internets this afternoon is that Neil Gaiman's American Gods is being pitched to HBO as a miniseries. I guess this is pretty cool news. I really liked American Gods even though I'm kinda inclined to not like Neil Gaiman. His good name has been ruined for me by emos and goths constantly touting his work like he's some sort of curly haired messiah. It's very similar to my irrational hate for Kurt Cobain but with less flannel and shotguns.

Anyhoo, this seems kinda like a slam dunk to me. The book has a good mix of mystery, action and suspense with just a right ammount of the supernatural thrown in (oh god, it sounds like twilight). In fact I'm shocked no one has tried to take this bood to the big screen yet. It's probably because M Night Shammlylammy has ruined America's appetite for old fashioned cinematic fables.
