They dared you not to see Bucky Larson

On the weekends I watch a lot of basic cable and when you watch a lot of basic cable you see a lot of the same commercials, over and over and over and over. One of those commercials that really hit hard last week were these Bucky Larson: Born to be a star ads. They are the most awful things I've ever seen and I watch a lot of ABC Family.

Who is this guy in front of the green screen and why is he shouting? Is he supposed to be high? Am I supposed to be high? Why is Don Johnson in this? Who watches these movies?

As it turns nobody watches these movies. Bucky Larson had one of the worst opening weekends in box office history with a gross of $1.5 million. To put that in perspective, It only averaged 8 tickets sold per screening. Which is still kind of high for a movie currently sitting at a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.

the longer extended HD trailer after the jump, because I must really hate you.

6 Reasons why 'Batman and Robin' was the best comic book movie. Maurice comments here all the time and now I feel like a jerk for never having gone to his site before. Here he makes a pretty good argument that all the good comic movies we're enjoying these days can be attributed to the failure that was Batman and Robin.

The 25 most Un-American Reactions to 9/11 Anniversary. Whenever I see someone reference Hitler in this manner I always imagine Stalin or Pol Pot in hell punching through the top of their hat Ross Perot style.

Unrealistic comic book pose of the day. Honestly, these geeks aren't even trying, but I get their complaint. However if they really wanted to complain about something complain about the perspective on that coffee table. There's like 7 vanishing points in this picture!

The Best of Star Wars vertical comics. How is it that there aren't more Star Trek meme's? Are all the meme makers on the Internet not real nerds?

Awwwww

Last Friday I took the day off to take my family to the Puyallup fair (stick to the elephant ears, avoid the earthquake burger at all costs). I came back to over 100 e-mails in my inbox, each more inane than the last. I've got 3 things lined up to post about but there's no way I'm going to get them up before the end of the day. yeah I know, 1st world problems.

I guess what I'm saying is enjoy this kitty. I've got to go figure out why there's a mini fridge in my office now.

Freddie Wong's commute is just like mine

I've posted a couple other videos by Freddie Wong before. Usually they're full of fancy visual effects and unbelievable action. This one's a bit different, it's just a simple short film documentary of his daily commute. Nothing really exciting happens other than he steals a car, shoots a gun and plays Frogger in traffic. It's basically all the same things I go through on my way to work, except I have to drop the kid off at day care. And sometimes there's zombies.

New Luke Cake trailer looks excellent

I know, I know the casting choice for the new Luke Cage movie is a bit controversial. Especially considering how hard Isaiah Mustafa has been lobbying Marvel to get the role. Still, I think this direction is the way to go.

I might have looked at casting a bigger name, maybe Ryan Reynolds or Chris Evans..

X-Men Destiny looks sucky, makes me sad

Good Grief, who thought handing the X-Men franchise over to the guys that did Too Human was a good idea? I really want to like this game. The 2 X-Men Legends games on the PS2 were killer, but as that franchise morphed into the Ultimate Marvel games they lost a lot of the RPG elements and just became flashy button pushers.

In theory making X-Men Destiny a more traditional RPG in the vein of City of Heroes sounds great but I swear this game looks just like Too Human part Two. I'm one of the sad saps that actually played that game to the end and it really was as bad as its reputation. The fact that Silicon Knights still exists is befuddling. The fact that someone at Marvel decided these were the guys to handle their best intellectual property is mind bottling.

X_men Destiny hits the shelves later this month, hopefully it'll hit the close out bins around December when I'm flush with Christmas cash.

Hey kids, remember when Star Wars was good?

I guess in some sort of response to the horribleness that is the updated Blu Ray edition of the original Star Wars trilogy, the nerds at Mental Floss have posted a pretty large gallery of cool behind the scenes pictures. In my opinion it's a much needed trip down memory lane.

It doesn't need to be said but I'll say it anyway, CGI blows. I doubt anything could have really saved the awful scripts of episodes I-III but actual sets, guys in robot suits and a couple of space ship models sure would have helped. Anything that would have kept us from the Gungans and super ball bouncing Yoda.

More pictures after the jump, I swear.

Star Command is my only hope

I just canceled my cable today and to help deal with emotional the loss of my DVR I'm thinking of sending a couple bucks to the Star Command kick starter project. Seriously, this game looks bad ass. It kind of reminds me of an updated version of the old Apple II game Sun Dog (random enough for you?), not to mention all the overt Star Trek references.

Of course if this game does live up to it promises, I might have to get a new phone. Who cares right? I'm saving money on my cable bill now...

...DVR I miss you, come back!
