The LEGO Batman Movie - "Behind the Bricks" Featurette

I'll be honest when I heard that the sequel to The Lego Movie was actually going to be a Lego Batman movie I was sort of underwhelmed. I really, REALLY like the Lego Movie and while Batman in it was funny, he was sort of a one trick pony, I was afraid that an entire 2 hours of his schtick would get real old real fast. Well, I am no longer afraid. Everything I've seen on this movie (including some of the tie in merch my son is already enjoying) is fantastic. This might just be the best version of Batman that DC/WB has ever put on film. It's certainly miles ahead of anything they've done int he last 15 years.

Logan Trailer #2

This new trailer for Logan came out last week while I was home sick with my sick kids. That's a fantastic time I tell you, being sick and trying to take care of someone sick, ugh never again. I'll just die next time, it'll be way less painful.

Hopefully that won't be before Logan actually comes out. Holy cow does this movie look good. I know there's some speculation that this might be Hugh Jackman's last ride as Wolverine but I hope that isn't the case. He's just now at the point where he's got the old grizzled warrior thing down, it would be criminal for them to recast the part now. We need at least 5 or 6 more Wolverine movies.

Triumph Attends Trump’s Inauguration

Conan was smart enough to send Triumph the Insult Comic dog to Trump's Inauguration last week. It's probably a bit too easy for Triumph but what else are you going to do? Sit there and do nothing? You've gotta get those youtube hits son.

It's not exactly as classic as the time Triumph roasted those kids camped outside to watch Star Wars but it's still pretty good. I give it like 3 out of 4 alternative truths.

Game Changers of the 1980's

The fine folks at Machinima put together this list of Game Changing video games of the 1980s. It's a pretty good list. I can think of a couple games I would add to it, Adventure or Zork probably deserve to go on there, maybe Metroid. Also the first Madden game came out in 1989 I think so I'd put that in the running.

I just now realized after watching this how little clothes Princess Daphne wore. I doubt that was an accident, I'm sure there was a whole slew of kids that thought if they just kept feeding the game quarters they'd get to see some boob. I know that's what I would have done but I think I only saw Dragon's Lair in the wild once. It was an expensive game because it ran off laser disc, I think I saw the price and noped my way on over to Gauntlet or something.

Beard Hunk - SNL

I wanted to post last Saturday Night Live's cold open with Alec Baldwin as Trump but I figure that video has probably already been posted to your facebook feed like a thousand times. This Bachelor skit, Beard Hunk is every bit as good, maybe even a bit better. That's Ashley, Ally joke is gold Jerry, gold!

It's really weird that I've been enjoying SNL so much this season. I don't know if it's that my expectations for comedy have been beaten to death by years of Big Bang Theory of if SNL really has been that good. Probably a little for column A, a little for column B.

Nintendo Switch. I'm still very interested

Yesterday Nintendo held a big press conference where they finally divulged a few details on the upcoming Nintendo Switch. Here's the quick deets I was most interested in:

The Price is $299 and it launched March 3rd. You get 32 gigs of storage and you can upgrade that through standard SD cards. Games will be sold on memory cards the same they're been selling portable games for years. It has a USB-C charger and they say it gets anywhere from 2.5 to 6 hours of battery life depending on the game. So honestly you can probably count on the 2.5 hour thing. For $299 you get the basic system which comes with the docking station and two joy-con controllers. If you want extra controllers or something that resembles a standard controller you're going to have to pay extra. You can use up to 8 joy-con controllers, no word on how many standard controllers you can use but I'm guessing at least 4. You can also wirelessly network 8 Switches together for old school lan like gaming.

The quiet kicker here is that on-line gaming will require a subscription service, something that's new for Nintendo. No price announced yet. Sounds very similar to the X-Box gold/silver subscriptions in that you can use it on-line for free but if you want to play games you have to pay. They'll be kicking in a free game from their virtual console every month to help ease the pain.

There was a lot of info on the new joy-con controllers. As some speculated they do have motion sensors in them and an infrared camera. They also have some sort of advanced accelerometer and rumble feature for more feedback when you're swinging the thing around like a goofball. Sounds like some games will use these features and some won't. You can probably count on all the Nintendo published games will take advantage of it and all the third party games will ignore it.

I didn't see anything on the price of games but it's been my experience with the WiiU that you're going to be paying $59.99 for all the new hotness. There's always some deals to be had out there but some Nintendo games retain value like crazy. Pretty sure Mario Party on the Wii still costs $49.00 at gamestop. Skyrim was confirmed as were the usual Nintendo staples like Mario, Zelda, Splatoon 2 and an upgraded Mario Kart 8. EA said a version of FIFA would be available and the fine folks at Sega said "we'll get back to you, but we're working on something". That seemed to capture the 3rd party support sentiment pretty well. It's getting versions of Rayman, Street Fighter II and Bomberman but it's not like they announced Call of Duty or Assassins Creed or anything. Without having to program for the extra screen like you have to with the WiiU I would expect 3rd party support to be better, but it's still Nintendo and I don't see it being 100% embraced by game makers.

So there you have it. On paper (and in youtube clips) this looks like a fun system. Yes it's going to be underpowered compared to the Xbox One or the PS4 but you can't play either of those on the bus. Nintendo is definitely pushing innovation and functionality over graphics and horsepower. You listen to old school gamers and they talk about how graphics aren't as important as gameplay and having fun, we'll good news Nintendo has a new system just for you. Hope you remember how to play 4 player split screen, no peaking at someone else's screen.

CHIPS - Official Trailer

Hey kids remember C.H.I.P.S? Well ask you parents then. Specifically your mom, trust me, she remembers Erik Estrada. Anyhoo, they're remaking it into a Movie. I guess that's fine. I mean 21 Jump Street was actually pretty good and this looks to be in the same vein. Plus there's Michael Pena and he's a national treasure. I'll probably check this out on some HBO or Starz free preview weekend. That's as good of a commitment as you're going to get from me on anything that stars Dax Shepard.

The Expanse: Season 1 Recap. With Cats

The first Season of The Expanse was pretty fantastic, especially considering it came from SyFy who hasn't really put out a good Sci-Fi show since BSG. Defiant was almost there but not quite. The Expanse feels like it has a bigger budget and a bit more of a coherent narrative. If you missed the first season never fear, here's a bunch of cats to recap it.

Nestled Links

Xbox exclusive action game Scalebound has been canceled. Well this is too bad. Scalebound looked kinda cool, Skyrim but with friends and floating castles, what's not to love there? It was from the studio that did Bayonetta which I just picked up for like $12 on the WiiU and that game is the bomb.com. Hopefully this doesn't bode poorly for other hotly anticipated Microsoft studios titles. I'm excited for this whole PC/Xbox synergy thing they announced last year. Get me some semi-exclusive PC titles stat.

People still use the Amiga today, and new Viva Amiga documentary shows why. I'm pretty sure I've never used an Amiga before. I'm familiar with the computer and I remember people who had them really liked them, but I'm near positive I've never had the pleasure. Still, I'm all in on this documentary. I'm a sucker for anything about old technology like this and the people that are obsessed over it.

All the Major Star Wars Cameos and Connections You May Have Missed in Rogue One. I know this is like 3 weeks old but who cares? My wife still hasn't seen Rogue One and I'm really eager to see it a second time in the theater. In fact now that I'm typing this out there's a small chance I posted this already right before I went on vacation. Oh well, no stopping now!

The Rock’s 2017 Fitness Regimen Includes A Toilet Nestled Among His Weights, Possibly Sparks New Trend. People who lift weights, are weird.

Save The Phone!

You know what used to be fun? Unexpectedly pushing someone into a pool or a lake. You can't really do that anymore now that everyone has a $600 minicomputer in their pocket. I saw a couple girls push some guy into a fountain a couple years ago and he was LIVID. I guess that's just the price of progress, Pokemon Go doesn't come without a cost.

More Or Les - Cuppa

Holy crap kids, never go on vacation and then have your kids get sick when you're back from vacation. I'm just now crawling out of the pile of crap I've been buried in all week. I SHOULD be back to regular schedule of half ass bloggery next week. I have zero clue though when I'm going to get my big fancy year end recap done.

In the meantime enjoy this new single off the new More or Les album, BLOW THE FUCK UP BUT STAY HUMBLE. It's pretty fantastic.

I'm on Fire

I'm back at work and far far too busy to blog. At least I'm far too busy to do anything other that post this cartoon and talk about how busy I am.

Merry New Year!
